Germans Love Sauerkraut

Sometimes I can't decide if I want cereal or granola for breakfast. One
of my favorite things about Kashi Granola is that many of their Granolas
also combine lighter grains and puffed cereals, the best of both worlds

1 heaping cup of Kashi Honey Almond Flax with 2/3 cup

Kashi Honey Almond Flax is super crunchy, so it's
best when the cereal treads water milk for a few minutes

Look how happy those carob chips look :)

Open wide hungry readers!

Given my German heritage, it's only natural that I would
have Sauerkraut in my fridge- Eden Organic Sauerkraut

My recipe creation for German Sauerkraut Beet Wraps are way
more delicious than they sound- I start with 2 wedges of Laughing Cow
light cheese (or 3 Tbsp cream cheese) spread on a brown rice tortilla

Topped with 1/2 cup sauerkraut and 1/3 cup cooked and smashed beets

You can enjoy as is or top with eggs and greens...

1 whole egg and 1/4 cup egg whites scrambled with 1/2
cup kale, 1/2 cup spinach, and 1/4 cup sliced white onion

I folded it and lightly baked in the oven @ 385 Fahrenheit for approx. 5 minutes

Came out nice and crispy; Best eaten with a fork and knife

It's not even funny how yummy this is!

And it's a wonderful way to use up leftover beets from the night before

Later on I made some hummus...

Question: Do you like sauerkraut or fermented foods?

  2. I love that about Kashi too... right now I'm on a serious Honey Sunshine/Puffed wheat kick. Makes me swoon big time.

I'm not really that big on sauerkraut, even with my European heritage... it's just something I never really picked up on. I do enjoy some fermented foods, though... kombucha being one of them :D

Oh dear... maybe I'm adopted??? jk

But I am totally on board with your cereal. The honey almond flax is my favorite Kashi cereal- hands down!

  9. I've never dried sauerkraut. It always looked so... unappealing. But you make it sound so good that perhaps I shall have to give it a chance?

  13. There are fermented foods I hate like natto, for example. I just don't want to eat slimy fermented soy beans. But I love sauerkraut and kefir. I can eat sauerkraut in so many different meals and I don't need German roots for this :)

  24. I love sauerkraut, despite not being German (at least not that I know of). I think my favorite fermented food is miso, though. Mellow white miso is seriously addictive!

  25. I have recently discovered that I actually do like sauerkraut. I always thought it was creepy and weird, but tried it in my foods lab last semester, as well as at the farmer's market this summer, and it's quite delicious. I shouldn't be surprise - I like fermented foods, so why shouldn't I enjoy some 'kraut?
