Great post!! I learned a lot from it and will be looking more into this stuff because I am always concerned about my family's (boyfriend's) mental well being.

So interesting - thank you so much for sharing!!
I´ve suffered from depression myself when I was 15 - just like you, I wasn´t able to get out of bed in the morning, crying as soon as I entered the bathroom to brush my teeth and eventually going right back to bed. I missed a whole lot of school during that time. Anorexia came in to my life at the age of 11. From 20-23 I had a relapse and am still struggling each and every day. About 1 1/2 yrs ago I found a wonderful doctor who put me on homeopathic medication (I´ve had positive experience with Rescue Remedy as well) and since then my life has completely changed. I have so much more energy, go outside, enjoy life, laugh and love - it´s great :)

Hope you have a beautiful week!
xoxo Mel

I loved it :) I seriously had no idea that you struggled with so much! You should be really proud of how far you have come, especially for overcoming something that is so misunderstood and not generally well-known.

Excellent post, Kelsey. Although my parents never brought me to a therapist or anything, they thought I was depressed when I moved to Texas (for good reason). I have realized I am very prone to sadness and tiredness; how I cope with it, however, is what matters. :) I'm happy that you overcame so much and have found peace (although, of course, I'm sure there are still days when the darkness comes).

Cool! I'm off to go read it asap.. well, after I shower. It's almost 8pm and I haven't showered yet.. I've worked 7 hours and gone tanning for 2.. I'm kind of grimy.

Great post girl! Some very interesting points that people often are hesitant to talk about openly. Thanks!

Hi love! I responded a little to your guest post but wanted to come back and comment here...I've been absent from your blog/the internet for a few days (I'm sorry!)
Anyway, I loved your guest post. I appreciated that you shared your story, since I had never heard it in such detail before. And I think it is so interesting how similar we are. I never had ADD, but pretty much everything else you said you had, I experienced as well. I was depressed at a very young age...my anxiety started even younger...doctors didn't take me seriously at first. They thought I was too young to have real depression or any problems worth noticing. I was put on antidepressants at 13 when my doctors finally took me seriously because I could barely function anymore, didn't want to live, and eventually started losing huge amounts of weight. I did have a diagnosis of anorexia (multiple times) but I didn't experience the same thing that other people with anorexia did. I know this because I was in the hospital for inpatient eating disorder programs, once at 13 and again at 18 and 19. I spent a lot of time with other people who had the disorder and through talking to them, I learned that my problem was first and foremost depression. All my issues with food stemmed from my deep sadness and low self worth (I know you said you had high self esteem...I never did, and still don't, to be honest). Anyway, I related to so much of your story and I just wanted to thank you again for sharing it...and thank you for all your tips. And for spreading the word about mood disorders, because honestly, people do NOT understand depression very well.
much love xoxo

This was a great post. Although I am thankfully not in the throws of depression any longer, I am really interested in checking out that book!

Thanks for all the information :)

I loved the guest post babe. I suffered from anorexia as well for a long time but I don't talk about it on the blog because that was then, this is now. And I don't want it to be a part of my future. Maybe I will, someday, but not now. It was great to learn more about you though. You are so strong!

Thank you so much for sharing your story on the guest post! That took a lot of courage and you were/are very strong for pushing through the situation and being proactive about recovery. Mood disorders are so common, it's important for everyone to know about the signs and symptoms! They also run in my family so I'm always on the lookout for symptoms in myself. Unfortunately there is so much social stigma surrounding mood disorders, so thank you for sharing and helping to show it's not just OK, but completely necessary to talk about and take care of your mental and emotional health, just as you do your physical health!

I've read your guest post the other day, and I'm so sorry how much you had to suffer, and still are! Anyway, I also see a lot of parallels to my own life - the ED, the hypersensitivity, the ADD kind of thing ... although I don't have a mood disorder.

Thank your for telling so openly and honestly about your past. It was very touching.
