Eating the Rainbow

This post reminds me of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat!" I think I covered every color in the rainbow..

First I made hearty morning flax n' oats topped with soy milk.

I like to add slightly less-cooked oats on top of the well-cooked oats for a bit of extra chew! You should definitely try it!

Snacked on a bright red delicious apple

Found this new raw chocolate bar "Righteously Raw" at the health food store. It reminds me of a Kit Kat Bar... but unfortunately didn't taste like one...

Yes it really looked promising, and had so much eye candy potential... but it was completely BITTER.. .and not the type of bitter that is palatable.. but the kind that makes you cringe and clench your eyes shut!

I don't mind bitter chocolate, just not if it tastes like coal...

Onto a redeeming lunch: a bison and pinto bean stir-fry with broccoli, green onions, red onions, kale, swiss chard, dulse, cayenne, sage, cumin, and mustard.

...and since we're on the subject of spices... I loaded some cayenne, basil, and oregano onto sliced sweet potatoes before tossing them in the oven...

stacked, served, and scrumptious

Lately my wisdom teeth have been coming in which is causing me incredible pain. Some days aren't too bad and some days are torture. Today my teeth being such a *BEEP*. I should probably go see my dentist! Hmm is this normal, like for a 21 year old too?

Question 1: Do you still have your wisdom teeth?

Question 2: What was the last product you bought that looked amazing on the shelf... but tasted horrible?

I don't have my wisdom teeth, I got them out 10 years ago (at 15)!

Hmm..the last product I bought that I didn't really like...it's usually things I buy when I go to the store hungry! hah! One of the recent ones was a mango salsa. Sounded good, but tasted awful!

I had to have mine removed the summer before my senior year of high school. My husband's never fully came in and he ended up having to have the removed a couple of years ago (in his 30's). That sucks when you buy something you are sure is going to be fantastic and it ends up being sooo not what you'd hoped for

Ooooh those sweet potatoes look so yummy!I love eating them, but I rarely make them because they are so darn time consuming! I want them then and there, but that's just not how it works...i need to learn to be more patient, haha!

I think wisdom teeth usually come in around your age. its different for everyone. take my mom for example-her wisdom teeth never even grew in! I don't think she had any at all!

What a bummer about the chocolate! I hate it when that happens, especially since food like that tends to be quite costly.
Most vivid in my mind is when I tried this gardein "chik'n." i was so excited to try them, but they tasted. awful. i rarely throw out food - but these got chucked. i gave them two chances and just couldn't stomach another!
i hope your teeth feel better tomorrow! i still have mine, too :\

Ack that sucks about the chocolate. I've never tried eating coal, but I can imagine it tastes pretty nasty ;) I haven't actually come across anything lately that I didn't like the taste of, and I'd like to keep it that way.

I still have my wisdom teeth mostly because I'm terrified of the dentist/surgeries so my dentist said it's okay to leave them in for now. They don't case me any pain or mess up my other teeth, so here's hoping it stays that way.

Oh that sucks!!!!!!!!!

most all protein powders that are hemp, pea or "natural" are that way...blech!!!

the sweet tater fries, love cayenne!

and no, i had my 4 wisdom's taken out in h.s. sucked and painful but worth it not to crowd the other teeth

my wisdom teeth were so bad I had to get them out when I was in 6th grade. It is not fun. I hope you have a better experience than myself!!! Will send you prayers and well wishes!!!!!!!!!!

Ah the wisdom teeth... I just got mine out last year. I was hoping I could skip it, but nope!

Good luck with that- if anything, it's a good excuse to chill out and relax with a pile of movies for a few days...

I had all of my wisdom teeth pulled out when I was about 22! I was hoping I could avoid it but no such luck. Mine were severely impacted so I was in bad shape for a really long time, but I think most people don't find the process all that painful!

Go get them checked out! Better to get it done sooner than later. Trust me!!

Ah, I have a lot to say:

1. Have you ever ground your flax seeds or tried buying them pre-ground? I've read your body doesn't absorb all the nutrients of whole flax seeds.

2. I love dark chocolate. I bought some 70% dark that was perfect for me. My Huz tried it and hated it.

3. Strangely enough, I'm 23 and my wisdom teeth have never came in. I'm so glad for that and hope they stay away forever!!!

i had 2 impacted wisdom teeth removed when i was your age, and then a few years later 2 of the non-impacted ones began to grow in - and yes they hurt! i wound up getting them pulled at my dentist, and it really wasn't so bad....

This is a really colorful post! I scrolled through after reading it for the full color effect :)

My dentist told me I needed my wisdom teeth out like 2 years ago, and then I lost my insurance so they're still there. Luckily they haven't bothered me yet and hopefully by the time they do I'll have insurance!

Lauren said... [reply]

Oh no! I'm sorry the chocolate tasted bad...it sure looks good. I haven't bought any products recently that I was disappointed with, but sometimes I have really high hopes for things that get a lot of hype and they just don't measure up. Can't think of anything off the top of my head though.

I started getting my wisdom teeth when I was 19 but they weren't fully grown until I was 21. I'm not sure why it took them so long to come in, but it was certainly a painful two years. Now that they are fully grown in they don't bother me anymore (and I haven't seen a dentist recently...I know shame on me) so I still have them. I'm not sure if I'll ever need to get them removed, but for now I'm delaying. I hope you get it figured out soon.

I still have my wisdom teeth to make me wise haha. I will not let the dentist take them because I am terrified of surgery!

I'm 18 and I was told that I should get my wisdom teeth out like two years ago. But I still have them and they hurt a lot like three weeks ago but I'm totally painless now.

I once bought a brown rice cracker from Planet Organic... and it didn't taste so well.. :(

I had my wisdom teeth removed when I was 16 I think. not fun!

Hmmmm can't think of something that didn't turn out good but how depressing about that chocolate!!

Katie said... [reply]

I was born without any wisdom teeth! (I like to joke that I am evolutionarily advance :) haha). All jokes aside, I feel for you, I have seen a lot of people go through getting them out, including my sister last winter.

Annie :D said... [reply]

I got my wisdom teeth out 2 years ago and it was a horrible experience. But mine were all impacted and I don't think I had the best oral surgeon. Most of my friends that have had theirs out are totally fine...can go out and party the next day!

What a bummer about the chocolate. It looks really good in the pics, but looks can be deceiving sometimes!

I just found your blog and I gotta say you have THE CUTEST header and title I have ever seen! So cute and creative! Ill be back :)

Karin said... [reply]

You should definitely go and see your dentist. Wisdom teeth are ok to "keep" as long as they don't hurt you. My former colleague got hers removed when she was 60 so 21 is ok too ;). I still have mine though I only have two. What sucks is that I have to take at least one out at some point or an other because it's apparently growing weirdly. Until then I just have to wait...

Ah that sucks about the chocolate! I don't like too bitter chocolate either..

i loooove 80% dark chocolate! xx

I recently bought a pepper sauce that I thought would be a great way to change-up our stir-fries. I took one tiny taste and couldn't stop gagging!

Poor you! I had my wisdom teeth removed last November- so glad I did because it's much easier to floss now :) I would go see a dentist for sure.

As an aside, I'm totally snacking my day away today. Honestly, cannot get enough dark chocolate and all things sweet. Love it x

Lauren @ Health on the Run said... [reply]

You definitely did eat the rainbow!! :) I'm sorry your chocolate turned out to be gross. That's always so disappointing.

I think it's normal to be getting your wisdom teeth now. I got mine out when I was 21 (I think). It was actually pretty awful. My Mom scheduled the surgery for a time when I'd be home on break -- the closest one being winter vacation. I got them out Dec 23rd, so I look absolutely ridiculous in all of the family pictures taken on Christmas Eve/Day!!

You should definitely get them looked at.

i have my wisdom teeth :( i am to much of a wuss to get put under and get them out. they bother me occassionally but not often. i need knee surgery before i can do the wisdome teeth... maybe both in one day and just suffer immense pain for like 3 days! haha sike...

of course you had sweet potatoes hahaha. i like the idea of that chocolate bar, i like bitter chocolate, but it its coal then i wont go lookin for it!

wendy @ ABCs and Garden Peas said... [reply]

I had my wisdom teeth way past 21...I've been told they are harder to get out the older you get, and from my experience I am inclined to believe that. :( You should probably go.

You'll get to eat lots of ice cream!

Last bad product? Hmmm...I did get a bad avocado, but that's not really what you meant...

Anonymous said... [reply]

My wisdom teeth were removed when I was around your age. Mine were impacted so I had all 4 taken out at once.

Once, I bought a bag of slimy carrots. It was so gross and I was so upset. I really wanted those carrots!

Laury@TheFitnessDish said... [reply]

Hey! Thanks for stopping by my blog! Yours is wonderful! All the healthy treats look amazing!

I never had my wisdom teeth out, but I needed 2 dental implants...which was the most BRUTAL experience...hear wisdom are not a walk in the park, but we all get through it!

Would love to find out more about your experience with school, I am thinking about going back for nutrition...I am going to be 29, and we are ready to start a family so it's a big risk for me; however it is something I have ALWAYS wanted to do!

I'm 21 and I still haven't got my wisdom teeth in! I'm crossing my fingers that they don't ever come in!

Your stir fry looks so delish and full of healthy greens! I'm a little scared to try kale because I've heard it can taste really bitter!

Anonymous said... [reply]

good questions! (the comments here are great)

I got my wisdom teeth out and am convinced one of them was my sweet tooth; I've changed from a sweet addict to a salty person

Last thing that looked good but tasted bad, hm... probably some curry soup that I just could not deal with. it just had to go in the trash.

You artfully ate that apple; impressive!

Hey Love!

I love bitter chocolate, so I might really enjoy this bar :)

I used to work for a dental office and 21 is the ripe age for the good ol wisdoms to come in! I totally got mine at that time too....I still have mine, but should really get them removed. I am just so scared :(

The pain does go away.

Sorry to hear that chocolate was less than stellar!

I had my wisdom teeth yanked when I was 18. Good riddance!! Sorry to hear yours are flaring up, though. :(

I got my wisdom teeth pulled when I was 19. It sucks, but you'll be so much better off after they're gone!

Your mountain of sweet potatoes look amazing. The spice overhaul is particularly appetizing.

And I'm sorry to hear about the bitter chocolate. :( I didn't even know chocolate could be bitter!

Danielle (Runs on Green) said... [reply]

Gah, sorry your wisdom teeth are giving you troubles :( That's one of my worst fears- getting my wisdom teeth out!

And I actually like bitter chocolate lol. I tried 100% unsweetened baking chocolate and it wasn't bad! I mean...it would never replace it's sugary sister, but it has its own place :)

Coal + Chocolate = YUCKO

I had my wisdom teeth taken out at 23. I remember being so nervous, but the whole process wasn't bad at all.

I got my wisdom teeth out a few yeasrs ago and I am glad to have that done! Bison, huh? Like as in the hooved animal? Last time I was in Indiana we were going to go to a Bison ranch, but it ended up not working out.To my knowledge, I've never had it before.

i've done that with my oats too. i like it chewy. and that makes me realize why im getting so tired of oat bran! no chew -- all slump! yes, i still have my wisdom teeth and have for years. they are here to stay!

the chocolate sounds horrible - and thats coming from a chocoholic!

yeah you need to get those wise teeth out - I was SO scared to get it done and its no big deal. I stayed awake (with a considerable amount of deadener and laughing gas) for mine and it was over in no time.

I had my wisdom teeth removed when I was 21. They never caused me any pain until they removed them! It was the worst dental experience of my life, and my jaw hurt for 6 months afterwards! I hope you have better luck!

Such beautiful colorful food! It's a very sad day when chocolate isn't good. I can't remember the last time I bought something that wasn't good because I'm pretty careful to buy things I know I'll like because I'm on a tight budget - but I guess you could never expect chocolate to not taste good! I did try some cabbage dish at a buffet in Italy and it took all my might to swallow it (we were in public so I had to be semi-polite).

I had my wisdom teeth out when I was 17 before they came in. It wasn't too bad. After having other teeth pulled and braces, my dentist didn't want those suckers to mess up my other teeth!

Anonymous said... [reply]

I didn't get my wisdom teeth out until I was in my 30s! But you should probably get that checked out! :D

Wish I liked sweet potatoes, I would be all over yours with all the spices!

Hey love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im loving the addition of kale in your wrap! I need to buy some kale!!!! I also have been adding flax to my oats, cereal, and salad! Flaxseed is so good for u!!!!

Yikes wisdom teeth!!! Actually I had mine removed when I was 20! So 21 is normal for sure, and if you are in pain then that means there is no room for those suckers so u will prob have to have them removed, you def need to go to the dentist for sure love!! I hope you get better!!

Have a wonderful day!! muah!!! xoxo

I still have mine actually but I think they will be indefinitely in the process of coming in. They go through phases.

The last bad thing I bought were pitas that went stale in two days! They were even in the fridge, so weird!
