Trying out new breakfast recipes was so much fun; They were all incredibly
tasty! I'm going to be getting in the habit of trying new things out more often
Even though I think 'Crunchy' peanut butter is best, all I had was 'Smooth'
Wildfire Bakery makes the best bread in the city
Any other oven toasters out there? Even though it takes
more patience, toasting bread in the oven seems to taste better!!!
Hmm I bet you can guess where I went for lunch! It's
been awhile since I got some vegan take-out from Green Cuisine...
been awhile since I got some vegan take-out from Green Cuisine...
Salad greens, arame seaweed, peanut tempeh, chickpea salad,
kabocha squash, pinto bean bake with corn and quinoa-millet
mash, quinoa patty, kale, ketchup, mustard and chili spice.
I've been wanting to try these Stinger Bars for quite some time now...
They looked delicious but WAY TOO SWEET!
Wanna know what happens when your rushing to cut up an apple in the kitchen?
You get your fingers sliced!!!
I'm okay now, but there was a legitimite reason for rushing
to cut an apple because I only had a few minutes to... ???
Yup. Feed my Friend.
Come here little one... don't be scared...
Munch Munch. Crunch Crunch.
Mama had her babies nearby. There were 3 (one is hiding behind her ear)
"Is there more apple left, Kelsey?"
E.T. go home
"I'll be back later"
Note to self: Pick up more apples at the store :)

That is so cool that your backyard is kind of a home to a couple of deer! I love how she eats out of your hands. Be careful with those knives - or else I am going to make you use butter knives!
hey Kelsey!
I really like your blog and as a gluten-free starter, I find it quite helpful :)
Just wondering, I do like Spelt, but along with Kamut, I heard it's not the best in gluten-free diet because it's a distant cousin of wheat.
Do you find spelt okay? How about rye?
Yummm! PB and banana go so well together!
Those deer are so cute, nothing like that happens here in Australia haha - we get birds in our backyard and that's about it
I'm with Chelsey - be careful with those knives!
A few weeks back I had the worst luck with knives - I think I ended up with 6/10 fingers cut and I would cut myself whilst trying to avoid hurting my other fingers >.<
Ahaha! No way! That's too cute. I love deer and while they are definitely around my area, I've never been close enough to feed one.
I'm definitely not an oven toaster because when I want toast, I want it fast. I'm usually patient.. just not when it comes to my food. ;)
hahahaha I LOVED THIS POST! all the way from your delish toast to the apple feeding deer! hilarious! you are so adorable. you got me wanting WHOLE FOODS NOW! Cause that salad looks DANG GOOD!!!
those were the coolest pictures ever! i see deer all the time but i can never get them to be friendly like you did! your eats look so yum your blog is so lovely and your packed veggie salad looks amaaaaaaazing! never tried tempeh but always wanted too! sorry about your finger lovey hope it gets better! love apples, galas are my fav <3
Oh my god!!!! Deer come up to you where you live??!!! All the deer here are TIMID! Wow. that is so cool!
Ack! I'm sorry about your finger, hun :( But I can see why you'd be in a hurry to slice that apple up; those deer are adorable! And I'd say that I can't believe they came up to you like that, but with you being the sweetheart that you are, I can't see how they could have resisted ;)
Oh, and I'm completely with you about toast tasting better when it's toasted in the oven. I rarely ever use the toaster for my bread... I much prefer it in the toaster oven :) And it's especially useful when you want to melt your toppings... toasted banana and nut butter taste amaaaazing.
Awww that is so cute!! I'm sorry about your fringer, though :(
I'm an oven toaster -- because, um, I don't have a toaster. ;) I kind of want one just because I'd be amused watching bread pop up out of there, but then I'd have nothing to do with all that toast...
<3 <3
Ohmigosh! How cool! Your deer are so friendly. Ours will never ever come that close, but that's also probably because we have a dog that terrorizes them.
I'd be afraid of oven toasting because I could easily burn it. I'm usually doing 10 other things at once, and I'd probably lose track or something.
As a city dweller I am really amazed that you can just feed a deer like it's no big thing. I'm not sure I would be that brave and be able to take photos of it too!
Sorry about your finger..I hope it gets better soon.
Have a great Sunday!
Wow - that is so awesome with the deer! I am so jealous, we just have not-so-friendly garbage raccoons at my condo.
I would have probably sliced my finger too! What a beautiful family of deer and how great that they love apples! I am also obsessed with peanut butter and banana toast as of late. I like to toast my bread again after I spread the peanut butter and bananas on top.

Ahahah!! THE DEER!!!!!!!!! I'm shocked you were able to do that. I wouldn't have the guts to do it where I live now. Mostly 'cause the deer have been getting super agressive now that they have their babies.
In fact two dogs have been brutally attacked (one of them actually ended up on YouTube) and some people too!
honey that finger...ouch!!!! Take care of it! Believe me, i have whacked my fingers more than i wanna admit!
PB nanna toast..omg when i was growing up, a staple!
I am quite envious of the deer in your yard! My grandma used to have a family living in hers, and I'd *try* to feed them when I'd go over to visit. They'd usually run away though...And then she'd get upset because they ate her plants instead. :-)
Sorry about your finger! That sounds so painful!
PB toast is one of my favorites...I have the same question as Stephanie K: does spelt seem to be okay on your tummy? I'm new to GF as well, and am REALLY missing tasty bread (the GF varieties aren't so yummy)!
Hi Kelsey,
I just found your blog and I love it. Deer is such a beautiful animal, you are a lucky girl you can feed them in your garden! Your meals look delicious and this may sound strange, but I love your skin. It looks absolutely flawless and perfect. (I'm sorry, I work in a cosmetic boutique so I may be a little professionally deformed but I'm sure many people noticed too :) Have a beautiful day!
Nina
Oh my god Kelsey, my heart just stopped when I saw those deer! First of all, they are adorable! Second of all, I can't believe they just came to you like that. Amazing. Just amazing.
And you can't go wrong with PB+banana for breakfast. You just can't.
Oh my gosh! That is the cutest thing ever! We have lots of deer around here, but none of them are that friendly! That must have been incredible! I can't believe you got your camera that close too.
I've never had PB and banana on toast! Raw bananas kind of make my throat itchy, but I'm sure if I cooked it a little I could swing it :P I've never used myt oven to toast bread, but I have used my toaster oven. Does that count? Hehe.
<3 Tat
PS. Nuts to You is an awesome company, isn't it?! They make the best tahini I've ever had.
That is amazing :D We used to get deer in our old neighborhood, but I think they were too scared to approach us. My college campus in on a freaking bayou now, so we have some deer... and alligators. >.>
I LOVE PB&BANANA TOAST.
You are the sweetest person ever, giving your apples to the deer :)
Kisses
Wow - you have a deer family living in your backyard?? That´s just too awesome! Hope your enjoying a great sunday without any further accidents in the kitchen ;) BTW I´ve never oven toasted my bread but will try it now for sure!
Lots of love & xoxo Mel
That's my usual breakfast or sometimes even dinner when out of ideas.I never could approach a dear, they are amazingly calm creatures,so kind of you to feed them apples :D
Whoa. You hand fed a deer. That is so cool Kelsey! You need to frame those pictures! I'm an oven toaster too. P just doesnt' understand why I take the extra time for it. It really tastes better to me. Almost like the inside stays softer than with the actual toaster.
Oh my gosh, how cute!! That's incredible that they came so close to you. I've never managed to get so close... but then again I've never had treats to offer them. ;)
Sorry about your finger though! I hope it's okay!
Oh my gosh!!! How did you get those dear to even come close to you, let alone take something from your hand?!!! That's so awesome!
Oh yeah, lovin that pb toast with b's.... Peanut butter and banana is a match made in heaven :)
Awww I loved those deer photos! So cool. And pb toast is a GREAT obsession to have. I seriously cna't eat bread anymore unless it's toasted! I've become such a snob! haha
omg that is so awesome that the deer come up to you and let you feed them!! I know deer are very shy/scared animals, so cool they gained your trust!! my son would die to see that!!! Get more apples for sure and dont slice your pretty finger next time! ouch!!!!
I never though of toasting bread in the oven, but then I have made garlic bread in the oven, so I guess the same!
Love you girl! Have a great Sunday!!!!!!!!!
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww I have bambi in my head now!!!!!
okay that's cool that the deer is not like going crazy running around jumping fences..thats what they do here anyway! lol...and that bread is awesome..I wish I could get stuff made like that around here. too cool. :)
That is so cool that the deer come right up to you like that! I can see why you were rushing to cut the apples. I love the pictures, and the babies are adorable. Did the mama share any apple with her babies??
Oh my gosh how cool is that with your new little friend! :) Your so lucky to be able to interact so up close and personal with wonderful little woodland friends.
Ouch on the finger girl! I toast bread in our toaster oven. We don't even have a regular toaster any longer. So cool with the deer. Love it.
Your photography is so good!
omg I have never seen a deer that will just come up to you like that! That does not happen where I live!!
Awww the baby deer are so cute <3
Crunchy is definitely my fave too! And I tend to slice my fingers even when I'm careful. lol
Aw, sweet deer!! I can't believe they just eat out of your hand!! That is so cool. People treat deer like rodents in CO - just shooing them off whenever they come near. They are a hassle when you have gardens you don't want them to eat, but those pictures made me love them so much!
Also, I've been loving the PB/banana toast combo a lot lately, too. It's pretty near perfection.
Aw Kelsey those photos are amazing. What a crazy cool experience :).
Sorry about your finger take it easy next time those suckers are sharp!
<3
Your photographs really capture the beauty of the mother Deer and fragility of the baby deer. I am amazed that they are so friendly in your backyard. We live in the city and only get visiting possums and owls!
That is so cool how you got to feed the deers! I guess totally worth having your finger sliced? lol
The Stinger bar totally looks like a candy bar!
Those deer photos are awesome!!! But I'm sorry about your finger. :(
zomg. the deer ate out of your hand!!!! ah-mazed i've heard about those honey stingers but i think i'll keep to buying larabars or making my own version of larabars. dates are plenty sweet enough!
That's amazing that the deer were comfortable and trusted you enough to come to you. Beautiful.
I can one up you on the cut finger. I did the same thing cutting a lemon. Most pain I've ever felt. Sorry about it though. :(
AWWWW SO CUTE!!! Sorry about your finger though :( I hope it wasn't too bad!
How cool is that?! I would have been worried that my fingers might be chomped on as well as the apple!
Be careful when you're cutting up apples! :( Very sad!
I LOVE PB + Banana. Soo good. I might have to try mine on toast. That sounds divine :)
My grandma used to make the best cinnamon toast in the oven, I've never come close to making it as good as her - must of been all the love that went with it!
Eek - I have deer in my back yard all the time, never would have thought to hand feed them though!
pb & toast was my dinner the other night!! love that combo SO MUCH :) especially with the bananas. ahmazing.
wow i can't believe the deer got that close to you! all the ones around my house run away just at the sight of us.
ooooooooooooooooooooooh that deer is so so so cool!!! Kinda reminds me of the deer when I went to Nara in Japan. Although "your" deer looks so cute and friendly - whereas the "Nara" deer were kinda evil! One of them even bit Mr BBB on the butt so that he would feed him. I of, course, laughed hysterically for about 5 minutes (hehe yes such a supportive wife!)
Once I saw a mother and baby deer flying across the backyard. It was sweet! Hee hee that deer is learning to be a snacker like you!
TOO CUTE. I can't believe they came right up to you!! That's crazy - and I even live in the boondocks so I'm not a "deer? what's that?" kinda person, haha.
that bread looks delicious, too. I'll have to give oven-toasting a shot :)
ahhhhh! deer!!!!! my mom hit one with a her car a few years back and now they constantly are spotting them in their backyard. she thinks they are out to get her. i shall suggest that she feed them apples :)
I'm jealous I'm jealous I'm jealous.
Only in BC. Only in BC. I WANT WILDLIFE IN MY BACKYARD TOOOOO.
oh my gosh!! you captured those moments perfectly! So adorable..!!!
PS
We NEED to do a Green Cuisine date when I am in Victoria next time, oui oui??
PS
have you been to Cafe Bliss on Pandora street? amazing
Oh no I hope your finger is better. YOU ARE SOOO AWESOME KELSEY!!! I definitely already knew this, but a deer getting so close to you.. just makes you queen bee of cool. By the way I love bananas + peanut butter on toast. It's soo yummy. And I laughed out loud at E.T. go home! Sometimes I do that randomly with people when I see them pointing their fingers and they have a zoned out look. I just point my finger and do the E.T. thing lol. It's really funny :p
XOXO
p.s. I just showed this to my dad and he asked if you've been reading St. Francis of Assis "the original Dr. Suess" :p
I don't have a toaster, so if I'm going to toast something then it has to go in the oven! I haven't had anything from the toaster in so long so I don't really know if there is a difference, but I'll trust your judgement and I won't bother buying a toaster. Your PB banana toast looks good...I love that it is simple and easy but so yummy...that's my idea of a perfect breakfast.
I'm sorry you cut your finger! But I would probably do the same thing. I wouldn't want to miss the opportunity to feed those adorable fur babies either. They are such cute little Bambis. I want to come hang out at your house and feed them with you!
xoxo
Oh my word! What marvelous photos!!! I love that Mama came and ate right out of your hand. I think seeing a deer fam in my backyard would be amazing. The most we get is bunnies. Mind you, they're pretty freaking cute, too!!
That is seriously the cutest post I have read in FOREVER!!! Thanks for sharing! so cute!!!!
I love toast, I love PB and I love Bananas. Guess I Know what I need to make!
That is the sweetest thing Kelsey!! You are like a magical Disney Character who frolicks with the birds and the bees and the butterflies and trees...and the deer! Too cute, lady.
Does your friend visit often?
PS- One of the best things in the entire world are the little spots on Baby Deer's coats, dontcha think?
I am soo shocked (and a little jealous) that you got to feed a DEER! They are usually sooo skitish!
