Celiac Test Kit

Two years ago
I was tested for Celiac Disease
by a doctor via stool analysis.

During this time I was following a gluten-free diet because it made me feel better, but didn't realize that I needed to continue eating gluten in order to obtain an accurate test result

I believe it needs to be done within 72 hours of gluten ingestion...
(not sure if that's the exact time or not)

My results came back "Borderline Diagnosis"
Simply meaning that if Celiac Diagnosis is made a '10'
on a scale of '1 to 10'... then Borderline is a 9.9

After telling the doctor that I had been following a gluten-free diet, he
believed I should assume I am gluten-intolerant or book another test

Since getting an appointment with a Gastroenterologist means waiting months and months to get an appointment, I looked into another possible solution...

BioCard testing is done through a Blood Sample. The process takes about 10 minutes and results are proven just as accurate as traditional testing

I'm not sure if the kits are sold worldwide
but its available across Canada and online

Starting tomorrow, I will be consuming both wheat and gluten!
I'm anxious about possible symptoms and reactions I blogged about here in my Gluten Free Guide, but it is important for me to find a definite answer.
It will determine whether I will be able to continue enjoying Spelt,
or will have to stick to a Gluten-Free lifestyle.

I won't be going hog-wild with the gluten, just enough for my system to determine if it likes it or not, and guarantee an accurate test result

Here's to an interesting adventure... You can follow me on it
as I glutenize my system EEK! My results will be posted on
Sunday in which we can celebrate or throw a pity party haha

Wish Me Luck!

Good luck! Hope you do not feel too bad over the next few days :(

Aww... good luck with the testing, hun. I always kind of like experimenting on myself and switching up my diet to see how my body takes it, but a gluten intolerance can be a pretty nasty thing, so I hope everything goes well for you <3

Good luck girl! I'm getting my cholesterol checked tomorrow morning to see if the vegan diet is helping, so I can totally relate!

aww, good luck! I know how much this sucks, hang in there!
I hope its not too bad and the testing goes well, because a diagnosis is important! Just get lots of rest and remember that it won't last forever :)

I hope you are symptom free... I know a few people who are semi-intolerant can feel miserable when they decide to consume gluten... no fun!

Sounds like an interesting process. I like when people are able to test themselves for things at home...it's like an experiment, and I'm curious to hear about your results.

Good luck! I hope you don't experience any bad symptoms. It's cool that you can test yourself - I hope it goes well!

I'm so interested in your test results! I didn't know they made at home kits, I'm going to buy one so I can try it out. Not knowing for sure is the worst part, especially if it's not that and it could be something else, like another food intolerance. Good luck with your test!! I'll blog my test when get one. <3 <3

PS. Is the name/URL option missing from your comments on purpose?

I just read about the test, and I had the blood test done 3 years ago by a doctor that specializes in Celiac who sent it to a lab in Cali that specializes in Celiac testing and all 5 of the antibodies that they looked for came back negative and their conclusion was, "Celiac is not present at this time and there is no indication of developing it in the future." However, the gold standard is having a biopsy of your small intestine, so definitely follow it up with that. :)

Have a lovely day!

Oh good luck!!

I had no idea that you could do these tests yourself. That is SUCH a good idea.

Oh, this would be so nerve wracking for me as well! I gave up gluten not too long ago, but before that I really wasn't consuming much gluten to begin with. I had some NON certified oats once in a while but that was the only food I ate regularly that was not gluten free. The thing about gluten is that it tends to contaminate absolutely everything and it is hard to find something that is truly gluten free even if it says GF on the label. I'm just trying to stick to as little processed foods as possible to avoid the gluten trap, because I don't think I have celiac's disease but I know that gluten makes me sick and causes significant inflammation in my body. It's more of an intolerance...I really don't think it is Celiacs. Anyway, I really hope you get through this okay and that you DONT have celiacs and that you don't feel too sick during this testing period. I will be thinking of you lots and wishing you all the best. Keep me posted lovely! xoxoxo

Good luck on the testing Kelsey! I am sure having a final answer either way will be worth it, in the end.

Good luck with the test Kelsey! I really hope you are symptom free. I'm allergic to peanuts but even though it's just one thing, it bugs the heck out of me that I cannot consume that one thing. Especially when peanuts are such a yummy snack. My fingers are crossed for you girl!

Good luck love!! I feel your pain....I am allergic to wheat and really I am not missing it too much. I feel wheat is overproduced anyways ;)

I can't wait to hear how you do!

Wow, you're brave!!! All the best, I hope you don't feel wretched on the gluten. Looking forward to hearing how you're getting on. xxx

I'm so interested to see how this test works! While trying to figure out why I got my stress fractures, my doctors did three tests for celiac's...one of which came back positive. They did a fourth which I don't know the results of yet (I should call today...). Good luck babe!

Hope it goes well! I'd like to take a test to see if I had gluten intolerance, or any food allergies other than my severe shellfish one. Might finally explain why I feel otherwise. Stay strong!

ohh goodness - I'll be thinking about you. Just the thought of accidently consuming gluten makes me nervous. I know what horrible reactions you can get from eating it, so stick in there!

What reactions do you get from gluten? With me, I am tired, depressed, bloated, gassy, constipated, weak, have horrible migraines, have "brain fog", and horrible joint pain.

I'll have to find a computer to use on the honeymoon on Sunday as I won't have my phone on or have my computer with me.

Good luck girl!

It is available worldwide because I ordered it in Greece.

I hope everything will be fine, because I know how it is food to poison your body and so your life.

Hope the testing goes ok and you don't get terribly sick. I'd be more worried that after not having been eating gluten and wheat that you might feel bad simply b/c you're eating them again?

I will be anxious to know what your results come back with! Since my husband has celiac and my grandmother, I am worried about myself and my boys. I would definitely find this interesting! Good luck Kelsey!

I hope it goes well! My friend has Celiac disease and if she eats gluten, she basically goes into a gluten coma and ends up sleeping for the next two days straight! I hope that doesn't happen to you. Good luck!! :)

good luck! I would have to know also.

Good luck, Kelsey! I have never heard of Celiac home test kit. Sounds much easier than waiting to see a GI doctor.

I was tested for Celiac last year and the results came back negative. However the doctor recently encouraged me to avoid as much gluten as possible because it seems to upset my stomach (meaning I probably just have an allergy). However, I recently read that the results of these tests are often incorrect, and that you should be tested several times!

I'll definitely be following you as you re-glutenize your diet! Sending good vibes your way!!!

Laury@TheFitnessDish said... [reply]

Good luck, sweetie!!! I agree that you should prob just assume you are GI...going to a gastro takes time, money, etc etc (I don't know how it works in CA for health care costs, but I know here even tho I pay 400 a month for insurance, i always end up with a huge bill towards my deductible. I hope you don't get too sicky from all the wheat!

I believe we ALL have gluten intolerance, to a point..some WAY worse than others (Celiac), where they can't have any..others may not notice it, but when they go off gluten realize how much better they feel! I try to do low gluten, I am not highly gluten intolerant--but I really think I feel MUCH better when I try to avoid it...it makes me feel fatigued when I eat too much.

I should look into that test! I didn't even

know they were available!

Good Luck'

xoxo

Good luck with your testing! It sounds like it could be annoying to go through. I didn't realize you followed a GF diet until looking at your muffin recipe the other day.

I was tested last year for Celiac Disease and I had to go to the lab to give blood for it. Thankfully, I was OK. But I still don't know exactly what bothers me belly so it was a catch 22! Good luck with your test!

So of course this last picture is one that I am absolutely in love with. Because it has a squirrel. And you are a squirrel. And there is bread. I suspect it is white. Oh cuteness how I love you.
