Out and AbOOt on Canada Day

Some people think Canadians say "Aboot" instead
of "About" ...actually I think that's only in Alaska...

we truly speak more normally, I promise :)

My version of 'Dirty Oats' which consists of cooked rolled
oats with cocoa. Topped with banana and chocolate chips!

I was going to theme my breakfast with red and white, but
then decided Raspberries and Yogurt wasn't what I wanted

After this incredible breakfast, I headed downtown to immerse myself
in Canada Day festivities. On the way I found myself, quite literally...

Haha... Snacking Squirrel

When I got downtown I popped into

Yummy bowl of red lentil dahl

Plus a box of delicious mixes; chickpea salad, tempeh mayo
salad, kabocha squash, arame, and steamed broccoli with kale

Green Cuisine is located inside Market Square, and for Canada Day there were
lot's of events going on. One was a magic show which I watched for a little bit...

I couldn't understand why it was filled with mostly adults versus kids. I'm
really not a magic show kind of girl, so I thought it was pretty funny. The magician
asked for volunteers and picked two eager 40-year-old men to help him out. Weird

The day wouldn't be complete without some
 celebratory vegan gluten-free dessert right?

I got a mix of different sample cakes.
In front is Apricot and Pecan Praline...

In the back is Mango Coconut Cream Pie,
and to the right is Chocolate Mousse Cake

They were all insanely good! The Apricot
Pecan Praline was definitely the best though!

I was going to hang around longer to see some free concerts and watch the
fireworks, but I was way too tired, and I find the noise pollution a bit exhausting

Hmmm and watching pre-pubescent girls abuse
the Canadian Flag by wearing it as a slutty mini dress
was a bit too much after awhile... so I headed home

Question: Do you celebrate the 4th of July or Canada
Day? If so, what are your favorite things to do or see?

Those dessert bars look FAB! And so does your chocolate chippy oatmeal! That last photo is a bit (a lot) scary though. Haha Happy Canada day! I'm celebrating the 4th of July this weekend!

I was seriously drooling over those dessert bars, and then I saw the last picture and kind of gagged. hahaha.

4th of July for me :-)

Looked like a fun day! Although for some odd reason magicians sort of creep me out... maybe I just have issues.

I celebrate the 4th of July... gotta love the fireworks!!! :)

Ugh, I hung out with my friends downtown last night and it was hectic!
So many wasted people and too much noise.
I am so tired now.
But one positive aspect was that we went to The Joint Pizzeria! You should try it if you haven't already, they have gluten-free crusts:)

I actually like magic shows. I am fascinated at how they trick out minds like that its usually the simplest things! I love salad bars...mmm all that in the brown box looks awesome. And the desserts? AWESOME x 3

Sounds like you had a great day! Well I celebrate neither because our national day is on August 1. ;)
All that food is making me hungry!!

Some of my Canadian friends actually do say aboot! Maybe its a Toronto thing?

I am so disgusted by little girls wearing slutty clothes...I am showing my age again, aren't I?

Ahhhh! You found a squirrel! How fun!

When I have daughters, I am not letting them out of the house from the time they are 12 until the time they are 19. Enough said.

Your oats look so delicious!

I celebrate the 4th of July - I love the firewords and wearing red, white, and blue!

alex said... [reply]

did you crack yourself up talking about the snacking squirrel?

girls dress just as bad for the 4th of july....I'm wearing my cute tanktop with the flag on it from Old Navy and I see half naked women....it's awesome.

alex said... [reply]

I mean to say...i Laughed out loud when you talked about the squirrel.!!

haha old magician men & trashy pre-pubescents...sounds like an interesting day :)

I didn't think *all* Canadians said 'aboot' lol. As long as you don't think all Americans say 'yall' ...

hahah that bikini is awful!

my canadian boss says aboot and PROject.. he's funny.

you're way cooler than him

My Canada Day breakfast completely failed in the patriotic department as well. It completely rocked the taste department, though, and it looks like yours did as well. Bananas and chocolate were meant to be together.

"I find the noise pollution a bit exhausting. " --ME TOO!! God, there are certain venues and events that exhaust me..b.c of all the crowds and noise!

I actually like the tattoo on that girl. I however, love tats of all kinds. There is something trashy that makes me stare at it. Maybe like a trainwreck, i can't help myself :)

4th of July for me!! I'm so excited for it :)

Also, I know this is going to be stereotyping, but I HAVE heard Canadians say oot and aboot haha. My fam's from Montreal and they do say that and eh a lot. It's so cute. Good to hear that's not always the norm :)

Erica said... [reply]

Sounds like a nice day :) Always good to celebrate a little...although I agree that too much can be overwhelming. Mango Coconut Cream Pie just sounds awesome. I do celebrate the fourth- usually with a family bbq

As lovely and calm as Victoria is it's an absolute mad-house come Canada Day. I couldn't believe the throngs of drunken kids!!!

Honestly I've never seen anything like it - and I include Paris on Bastille Day!

Btw your desserts look lovely! Did you make them? Buy them? Either way.....YUM!!!!

Those puddings look amazing! and now I NEED to try choc chips in my oats :D

I don't celebrate 4th of July or Canada day as I'm from the UK, but I wish we had a day of celebration like that!

Lies! Every time I watch HGTV and they are looking at houses in Canada, I definitely hear "aboot" lol. :)

Looks like you had a fun day! I haven't done anything for 4th of July since my boyfriend and I have been together. Kind of sad, because I LOVE watching fireworks!

The 4th of July!!

Sounds like you had a fun day! Those desserts look amazing! :) I want to try each and every one.

Also, I'm having a hard time commenting on your blog lately...I don't know if it's me or my stupid computer, but I apologize -- I am still reading.

Have a great weekend!!

Chelsea said... [reply]

Haha I definitely don't pronounce it "aboot". I am guilty of saying "eh" a lot though! :P

Looks like you had a fun Canada Day! I celebrated by going to a party at my friend's house!

I'm loving it so far!! :) Hopefully I'm commenting right. I have no idea how to comment using blogger now!

Cute squirrel! That Green Cuisine sounds like such an amazing place to go. I'm so jealous! ;) We always head down to the park for Canada festivities. I went as a kid and loved it and now my kids do, too.

Those desserts and Dirty Chocolate breakfast both look excellent. (Can you tell I have quite the sweet tooth?)

I've never been a big July 4th person. There were a few years that I'd go to fireworks with friends, and often my immediate family will have a barbecue, but that's about it.

Jess - Healthy Exposures said... [reply]

looks like a fun day all around - but i don't think anything tops the desserts. they all look amazing! i love that you can find so many vegan and gluten free options there.

I love your vegan meals! Actually I decided to prepare something like that for today :)
The language in my blog is Greek, because it's impossible to keep english language and settings, since it makes my pc to collapse everytime!

Sorry about that :(
I ll continue to visit your blog of course

I will be all by myself on the 4th and loving it!

I love squirrels. They were my sorority mascot.

Don't judge...

I celebrate 4th of July! My favorite things are BBQ, beach, & fireworks! (classic trio)

omg! I wish I took a photo of my WHole Foods lunch looked SO similar to yours! We have great taste : )

Anonymous said... [reply]

Canada Day! That's what I'm supposed to celebrate except that I never do. Mainly because I always forget about it. :P

Someone needs to throw a towel at the girl in that last picture. That's not sexy, that's trashy.

Anonymous said... [reply]

Yum, yum and yum!! I am drooling over your oats!
I love watching fireworks on the 4th!

Anonymous said... [reply]

I'm glad you had a good Canada day love...
I had Green Cuisine tempeh today and thought of you!
That is such a cute little squirrel in the picture. I saw the biggest squirrel today...and our squirrels are black not gray...I thought it was a cat at first, it was so so big. Okay, random story, I'm sorry.

Oh wow, so strange...I just got an e-mail on my phone saying that you just commented on my blog. We were writing to each other at the same time!

Okay, first of all: your eats from today look delicious and the story about the magic show is pretty funny...I guess those adults were embracing their inner 5 year old. My sister used to love going to magic shows and "volunteering" to be the guinea pig who they cut in half or levitate or whatever. She was so excited about it, it was pretty funny...But she was 5 so it was cute.

I've seen slutty girls in Canadian flag "mini dresses" too! Every holiday is really an excuse to show skin for some people...oh well...to each their own!

I'm going to go reply to your comment separately so that I don't overwhelm your comments section (on second thought, I probably already have?)
Love you xoxox
