10 km Finish Time: 50:42
I was pretty satisfied with my time. I was hoping to break the fifty minute mark, but i'll take this. There were approximately 14,000 runners; I was weaving in and out the whole time which was incredibly frustrating. Any time you found an open patch, someone would cut infront then slow right down!
I got up just before 6am and had my pre-run meal of two bananas and yerba mate tea. I love my bananas because they didn't give me any side stitches :D
After the race I headed to Starbucks to treat myself.
Venti coffee (Pike Roast) with soymilk please!
After which I headed down to Green Cuisine to get a to-go box of deliciousness to eat outside in the courtyard. Got some broccoli, kale, bbq tempeh, salad, raw veggies, kombucha squash, ginger miso dressing, arame seaweed, and curried black-eyed peas.
For dinner I was planning on making a salmon salad, but reconsidered when I found more of these bad boys! I'm addicted to sweet taters :D When I roast the orange ones, they leave a sweet syrup on the bottom of the parchment paper... and it tastes like maple sugar!!!
Threw the usual basil, oregano, and cayenne pepper on them.
I find when i'm finished a race, hunger is the last thing on my mind. I know for some people its the exact opposite. I have an idea that maybe excessive hunger after exercise is because of stress and having to rely on the adrenal glands to support the body's energy. I'm learning a lot through my studies on this.
Question: Do you get hungry right after a run, or do you find it takes awhile for your body to settle down before your appetite is stimulated?

That's a great time! And I know your frustrations with big races like that- I hate spending the entire race trying to get through people instead of actually getting to enjoy the run itself a little more...
Congrats..you did great.
I don't run or exercise much anymore (health stuff and more)...but when I did, 10-k's were never the funnest!
You ought to have your sweet taters with the salmon...that is a light dinner !
Nice salad stuff too.
And I love bananas.
WOW you did so incredibly good!!! I can only hope for that time someday!!! CONGRATS!!!
holy smokes you are fast!! congrats!
Congrats on the race! You should definitely be satisfied with a time like that.
I never ran in a race, but when I was exercising more, I found that heavy workouts always killed my hunger. Unfortunately, when it hit later on, it really hit and I became ravenous in an instant.
Hope your week starts out great@
Congrats on your time! You should be really proud. I will be lucky if I ever get to be that fast...but my body is so damaged so I'm grateful for even the small things it can do right now.
First, about the bee pollen, it might not be sperm per se, but it germinates and produces a pollen tube that transfers the sperm to the ovule of a receptive ovary of a plant. Yes, I totally googled that.. I was curious. I knew it had something to do with sperm but I didn't know for sure!
I never really get hungry, after a run or otherwise....my hunger signals are messed up. I just try to eat mechanically. Eventually I would like to be able to eat intuitively but its unrealistic right now.
I'm happy you had fun today! xoox
salad is what food eats
lol, leeanator. mmm i like to eat what food eats :P
Awesome time girl! Love your post run salad, it looks amazing. Sometimes I am crazy hungry after a run, other times no appetite. It really depends!
Congrats on your time! That's fabulous :) I'd like to someday work up to that time.
I am always ready to eat after a run, but I don't think that it's actual hunger, emotionally I always feel I deserve some food after working so hard!
Wow - what a great time for your race! How many 10ks have you run? I'm hoping to do a 5k in the next two months.
And I love sweet potatoes too; I feel like I could eat them every day! Glad to be back to comment again...
Good job girl! That salad looks fantastic btw. YUM. I have not ever run a race longer than a 5k and it definitely didn't make me hungry. Now a 10K, maybe? It also depends on the time of day of the race for me.
I do get hungry usually right after I exercise! Weird because I know that you are 'suppose' to have an suppressed appitite after exercise.
love roasted veggies!
GREAT JOB ON THE RACE HUN!!
I usually am not hungry right after, but then about 30-40 minutes later I'm ravenous :)
Good job on the race. For me it totally depends on the day whether I get hungry after or not. Sometimes I want to devour everything in sight and other days I can not eat for hours. Weird
I'm like you, I'm never hungry right after a run. It takes about an hour for me to get my hunger back. I like it that way because then I have time to shower!
wow congratulations on the race! :)
i get hungry about 30 minutes after a run. I'm not hungry at first, but then I'm starving!
Wow what a great race time!! It would be my wildest dreams come true if I ran my 10K that fast!
I'm usually not hungry right after a tough workout, but by the time I stretch and shower, I'm usually starving! (which I'm not sure necessarily has to do with the workout. It may just be because it's been 3-4 hours since I've had a meal).
Love the roasted sweet potatoes - yum!
Congrats on your race girl!! And I love tea :) it is always a great way to start the day!
That's a really great time!! Last year I did a 10K and finished somewhere in the 52 minute mark and I really thought I was going to die. It was no fun. I bet if I ran it now, I'd be closer to 60 minutes. Less training will do that ;)
PS - I am usually not very hungry after long runs and races but the hunger comes back with a vengeance the next day.
Thank you for visiting my blog! I find that my tummy is not hungry for some time after racing. I seem hungrier the day after.
Congrats!! You're one hell of a fast runner.
I'm never hungry after races / long runs either. It's like I have to force myself to eat something..
GREAT race time. I think you rocked it ;) Sweet tatoes...amazing. Having some for dinner tonight- can't wait. For me, running hunger takes a while to set it!!
Morning pretty lady!!
Your potatoes always look so freakin good!! How do you make your tomato sauce and garlic dip? I've been reading through your blog and I think it was few posts back. I love how you use so many spices. I ALWAYS want to, but never know what ones go good together. I even have an entire spice rack!!
And congrats on your run love!!
i dont run, so i dont have an answer lol just wanted to say i would be one o those slow pokes you get annoyed with in a race haha
those taters look mighty good though...
Hey Kels!!
Thanks for the recipe and all those fabulous spice tips. I'm going to try play with some for suppa tonight! I might have to try out your sweet potato blend on my butternut squash fries!
I just read your first comment and it made laugh out loud. Weekdrag is way more accurate than weekday hahah Thanks again love!
CONGRATS! Amazing time, Kelsey!!!!
It takes me about 10 minutes to get hungry, but then I am totally ravenous!
First of all, congrats on your race!! That's awesome. :)
Secondly, I love the name of your blog -- so cute. I'm so glad you commented on mine because I'll definitely be following you now!
And lastly, I'm not (usually) hungry right after a race -- especially if I've pushed super hard. But a give me a couple of hours and then I'm absolutely starving!
I've had both happen to me: sometimes I am not hungry after a run and my stomach actually hurts (not sure why!) and other times I am hungry right away. I just go with how I am feeling, but definitely eat within an hour after a workout.
Those taters look so tasty!
Huge congrats on the race!
My hunger always hits later, but I still eat right after to help with recovery.
I'd say you ran a great time! Congrats!
It usually takes me at least a 1/2 hour after a workout to get truly hungry. Anything before that and my tummy gets upset!
Great job on your run!! I'm usually not hungry for a while after a race, but when hunger strikes..it comes with a vengence!
You just made me drool multiple times in one post. In particular, the carb-lover in me is relishing pictures of your berry-filled breakfast pizzert.
I get hungry around 40 minutes after a run. And then it's all WATCH OUT FOLKS I'MA EAT YOU NOWWWW.
