Sweet Potato Swan

Yes, I'm well aware,
Most of you visit my blog because of these...

My Daily Morning Muffins

Carrot Millet Pumpkin Seed Muffin from Cascadia Bakery

The cap on this baby just screams "EAT ME!"

The millet doesn't soften when it's baking,
so you get a fantastic CRUNCH with this muffin :)

I'll always be a slave to take-out vegan food from Green Cuisine...

Jamaican rice, kabocha squash, tofu espagnol, nori millet burger patty,
oven fries, black beans, yam & walnut salad, kale, arame seaweed,
salad greens, alfalfa sprouts and vegan ranch dressing

After digging in my bag I found half of a Clif builder bar...

A little squished, melted and mangled... just the way I like it ;)

Now, check out this sweet potato I bought!!!

Totally a "Sweet Potato Swan" right???

And after a brief decapitation...

...deliciousness ensued.

Questions: Do you keep snack foods in your purse or bag?
Anything else interesting in there that you'd like to share?

Ooh that muffin sounds delicious! I love the crunch that you get with millet and nuts and seeds.
I always put food in my bag when I know I'll be out of the house for a while - I eat super healthily and i'm quite fussy so it can be a little tricky trying to find food when I'm out. And I always have a granola bar or some dried fruit in my bag just in case! :D

The only food related thing I keep in my purse is gum, and right now I actually have a couple peppermints I keep forgetting are there!

I use to get muffins at Panera Bread when I was having to go there to use the internet all the time! They're HUGE and delicious! I always think of that really funny muffin video on Youtube though :)

I always keep larabars or something similar in my purse. I have low blood sugar so I always need something just in case it crashes, especially when I'm driving.

Monet said... [reply]

Delicious muffins (which yes, I love to see) but that sweet potato has to be the craziest/cutest vegetable I've seen in a long while. I do bring snacks with me (almonds, larabars, and muffins being my favorite!)

Laury@TheFitnessDish said... [reply]

Sweet Potato SWAN!!!!! I love it!!! I wouldn't of been able to eat it....too swan-like, lol.

I do come for the muffins...now if only you'd mail some to me...but you are across the country and Canadian mail to the US is quite slow :( Very sad for me.

I keep lara bars in my purse for emergency's at all times

Crystal said... [reply]

Whyyyyyyyyyyy must you tempt me with muffins always?! And I am jealous that my sweet potatoes aren't as graceful as yours is. I will now actively look for cool-shaped sweet potatoes. It will be like sweet potato art.

lequan@luvtoeat said... [reply]

Haaha! Totally a sweet potato swan! I had to show the hubby that too. With two little ones, going out without a snack on hand is just asking for trouble lol. You'd be surprised at the magical power a snack has.

Madeline - Greens and Jeans said... [reply]

I always have some kind of a snack in my bag! Today I found a few pretzels and some chocolate chips. Amazing.

Natalie @ cinnamonbums said... [reply]

all your foods (esp the muffins, you are correct) look so good and make me ddrrroooool. that is one hot-ass tater you got there..... hahaha love itttt. seems like you put it to good use too. yuummm.

snackfoods i keep in my purse.... im more of a mint/gum girl. sometimes ill stash some dried fruit or granola bar but i usually run out of the house totally forgetting that kind of stuff. i always have lipstick in my purse though. its so random. and floss.

Amy B @ Second City Randomness said... [reply]

That sweet potato is awesome! I would have had a hard time parting with it... lol

I may keep a little granola bar or two in my shoulder bag that I carry to work, but not in the purse. Food that stayed that close to me at all times would not last long!

Anonymous said... [reply]

I'd like to share that is the BEST sweet potato I have ever seen!!! :)

I do keep snacks in my purse - guilty as charged.

Joanne said... [reply]

ACTUALLY I come for all of the distorted food you seem to find. And for your adorable self.

elk said... [reply]

My my, how bizarre! If it was human sized I'd probably be quite scared of it ;)
I love it when I find squished food in my bag, because it's always when I'm suddenly really hungry, and far from home. Crunchy food doesn't work so well, but Nakd bars survive a good squishing remarkably well.
And muffin tops: I want one. :D

Anonymous said... [reply]

LOL! holy crap that totally is a swan. nuts. i always have purse snacks haha, usually a larabar or homemade vegan crackers or nuts. it's nice to have around! random sharing: i play the guitar

Beth @ Beth's Journey to Thin said... [reply]

ha! that really does look exactly like a swan! so funny. I do keep bars and packets of Barney Butter in my purse in case of emergency. :)

That sweet potato looks like a duck... LOVE IT! Muffins definitely look amazing. I wish I knew how to make some healthy and amazing tasting muffins lol. I definitely keep snacks in my handbag. I have to eat every three hours or I am a cranky monster lol.

Sarena Shasteen - The Non-Dairy Queen said... [reply]

No Kelsey, I visit your blog despite the fact that you tempt me with those freakin' muffins! They look so good...it leads to horrible cravings! I don't "keep" things in my purse, but I always take things. Mostly apples, but sometimes dry cereal. It depends on how long we will be out.

Heather Iacobacci-Miller said... [reply]

That's one crazy looking sweet potato! I keep kashi granola bars in my purse. They may be smashed flat, but if I'm hungry or someone else is, they are totally appreciated.

Rebekah (clarity in creation.) said... [reply]

OMG that is a huge sweet potato and it does look like a swan!!!! lol!

I ALWAYS keep bars in my purse for snackage or emergency hunger! Its a must! Sometimes they do get squished or melted too! I try to keep ones in my purse that wont be too messy!

And yes I come to your blog because of the muffin love you have but also because you pretty much rock and I love ya!

Chelsea said... [reply]

Haha that is the coolest sweet potato I've ever seen!

I'll usually throw a granola bar or an apple into my purse if I know I'm going to be out for a while. I get grouchy if I go too long without food, lol!!

Christina said... [reply]

i always have an apple, banana, or clif bar in my purse! love having food on hand. you never know when you might need it!

Anonymous said... [reply]

Yes I keep bars or an apple in my purse for "emergencies". I also have my water bottle with me too.

That swan is so beautiful! I wouldn't have been able to eat it. I would have kept it!

Lisa @ I'm an Okie said... [reply]

omg I wouldnt even want to eat that sweet potato bc its so cute!

Candice @ ChiaSeedMe said... [reply]

Okay, now I get the muffin comment you left on my blog. Do you get a muffin every morning? I have to say, they look awesome!

I always keep a larabar in my purse if I'm going to be out and about. It's way too hard to find healthy food on a whim!

Nattie. said... [reply]

I'm anal when it comes to snack foods in my bag - I don't like them there. They kinda make me feel uncomfortable cos I like to make sure my bars and stuff look in pristine condition when I eat them. Don't like them mashed up or anything. Lol. That's just me though. Plus, the hot weather here makes it almost impossible to carry anything meltable (is there such a word?) in my bag so...

AnyhOoo... the sweet potato swan looks pretty cool! The wonders of nature! =) I think the oddest shaped foods tend to taste the best!

Much love
Nat xoxo

Love the sweet potato swan!! And I don't even like sweet potatoes :D

Almonds are always in my desk drawer - they save me in the afternoon! :D

Anonymous said... [reply]

That muffin looks so good! But that sweet potato swan is just awesome. I would have bought it JUST because of the cool shape. :)

I usually have a baggie of almonds or something in my purse. I get mean when Im hungry, so I try and keep food on hand so its not a problem.

Anonymous said... [reply]

Hahahah :) i love your blog and especially the swan sweet potato! i love sweet potatoes, they're so good just cooked in the oven by themselves. but man, i've seen oddly shaped ones but this one is by far the funniest :)

sophia said... [reply]

Well, I have a snack drawer. And I keep telling myself to make a snack bag for my bag, but I forget, or feel lazy. lol.

Whoa, that is some interesting sweet potato! Now get in my belly!

Kayla said... [reply]

I'm LOVING that sweet potato of yours! Too funny!

And yes...I occasionally drool while viewing your daily morning muffin.

Anonymous said... [reply]

No way!! That's the coolest sweet potato I've ever laid eyes on.. I'm in love. How you ate it I'll never know. Actualy I do know, sweet potatoes are just too delicious not to eat.. even if they look like a swan.

I try to keep snacks in my purse but I eat them too quickly. :)

Lola said... [reply]

I love to see your daily muffins, but I also read your blog because your posts are very amusing, your photographs great and most of all because you are an amazingly sweet girl Kelsey!! :)
That muffin looks sooo scrumptious, but I wonder what millet is in spanish? hehe it looks good anyway!
In my purse there are mostly gum wrappers. I have a serious gum addiction Im trying to break.
Have a lovely wednesday!

Emily said... [reply]

Alexis said... [reply]

Mmmmmm! The pumpkin seed muffin looks so delicious! And that is the most amazing sweet potato ever. Kind of reminds me of the book, "It looks just like spilt milk." Funny how food takes the shape of things :P

I take snacks with me if I know I will be gone for some time, but otherwise I just wait to get home. My purse is very generic- wallet, phone, coin purse, camera.

Tatianna said... [reply]

I almost always have a larabar in my purse :) I hate it when they get all messy and destroyed though, so I always make sure it's in a secure lil' pocket!

That is the coolest sweet potato I've ever seen! ... Hehe, I wonder if that could even be considered 'vegan'. Technically, you destroyed a bird in the making X)

I love that sweet potato swan! So much fun!

I rarely leave the house without a bar of some sort in my purse. On occasion I'll switch it up with a small container of almonds and dried fruit - haha I know, I really live on the edge. ;)

that sweet potato is hilarious!!! :D
I keep some kind of snack in my purse all the time! usually a bar or some nuts.

Anonymous said... [reply]

Yes, your muffins are always glorious!! OH MY GOSH!! That sweet potato swan is aweosme. I definitely thought the same thing when I saw it lol. What an expressive and graceful potato ;) I like picking out the funky ones too.

I usually do keep snacks on hand. Lately I've been bringing along fruit and some of my top secret oat "bars/muffins" I've been concocting for awhile now :) I think I'm gonna stick with baking them as muffins though because they're so much more fun to eat. But not nearly as fun as your muffins I bet. I also always carry my journalist pad moleskin and my Stabilo pens.. lol it just makes me feel closer to my German heritage :p Oh and I have a different chap stick for every purse.

XOXO

"Do you keep snack foods in your purse or bag?
Anything else interesting in there that you'd like to share?"
YES
Yes, toys, spare undies for lil ones, wet wipes, gum, mints, suckers, pens, paper, jolly ranchers, basically anything that in an emergency can be used to coax good behavior or a reward for being good at a moments notice :)

Karin said... [reply]

Mmmm muffins.. :) But believe it or not.. I also read your blog because of you!! ;)

That swan sweet potato looks kind of cute. I love it when food is shaped weirdly!

That potato is amazing! Before and after!
I'm pretty sure I have more snack bars in my bag than money. I figure I'll use them to pay my way out of some sticky situation one day...
I read your blog because of the wonderful person who writes it! The girl who is full of wisdom, amusing anecdotes and helpful advice!

I always love looking at the mouth-watering muffins in your posts, especially the ones with the huge caps! I always keep a bar in my bag for emergencies, but I prefer to bring fruit as my planned snacks :)
