Solstice Poetry Slam

Before I show you some pictures from last
night's Poetry Slam, I'll show you some eats...

Grilled Chicken, Refried Bean, and Cream Cheese Taco with Vegetables

Lunch was filling, but I needed a mid-day snack to keep me going...

Green Yogurt with Berries

1 cup plain yogurt mixed with 1 scoop Greens+ powder
1/3 cup frozen blueberries, and 1/2 cup sliced strawberries

Now let's get to some music and poetry!

Last night, my friend invited me out to a Poetry Slam at Solstice Cafe

The main feature was "Mighty" Mike McGee from San Jose, California. He's an
international spoken word artist, writer, performer, speaker, slam poet and comic.
(In the photo above: far left, sitting down)

The acts and presentations before him were amazing,
especially singer and poet, Matthew Christopher Davidson

His voice and music were soothing and really quite beautiful

Sorry for the bad pictures; the quality of good lighting was lacking

Then "Mighty Mike" hit the stage...

I loved his energy! He was witty, impressionable
and contagious. My cheeks still hurt from laughing!

Question: Have you been to a poetry slam before?
Any hidden poetry fans or poetry writers out there?

Poetry slams are AMAZING. They are literally what got me through my rough two years at UCSB. Every monday night. It was the only place I felt completely comfortable and myself :)

I've been to a poetry slam a few months ago, and it was awesome! I'm very bad with writing poetry myself, though.

I've never been but that looks like so much fun!
Even though there aren't very many people there it seems? :P
These are the kind of things I usually don't do but that I'm actually probably missing out on! :P

I have never been to anything like that, but I love creativity and totally admire those that aren't afraid to share!

I've never been to a poetry slam, but I do enjoy poetry! My favorites are Robert Frost, John Keats and William Wordsworth.
Its such a beautiful form of expression.

My oldest brother was a part of the slam poetry scene in San Jose, CA in the mid to late 90's. Some of his best friends from that time are now professional slam poets. Although I like to remember them as the punky mohawked early 20 year olds they were.
