When Life Hands You Tomatoes...

They say that "When Life hands you Lemons, make
Lemonade" ...But what if Life hands you Tomatoes?

You eat them like they're Apples!!!

To be fair, tomatoes are technically a fruit

Taking a big bite of the raw tomato...

"Hmm not quite an apple, but maybe if I add a little salt?"

Around the point I realized how delicious raw tomatoes are

"Nom nom nom, allow me to devour thee"

The moral of this post is, well, something along the lines of either:

a) It can be healthier to eat a fresh and ripe tomato than an apple as a snack
b) Your mind can easily be tricked into thinking something is different than it is
c) Thinking that photos of me eating a tomato is entertaining enough to post
d) All of the above (bonus points awarded to those who circle this answer)

And tomatoes are a rich source of lycopene, a powerful anti-oxidant

Debate: Which is better, Fruits or Vegetables?

Hahaha... did you see my lemon post the other week? I'm so glad I didn't eat those like apples!! Although the photos would have been very entertaining... **sour face**

favorites are persimmons and sweet potatoes but vegetables take the win. berries/figs/dates versus squashes/avocados/sweet potatoes/yams/roma tomatoes? almost no contest

d) all of the above.... obviously!

My favorite day to eat tomatoes is just like that... double points if they're right off the vine. (Like eating an apple right off the tree.)

Fruits or vegetables...? I could never choose! My favorites, as it happens, are fruits like avocado and tomatoes, which everyone seems to *think* are veggies... so I guess I'm a fan of the confused in-betweens. ;)

Cute post :) . But I must admit I am confused. First I saw somewhere a post devoted to unshelling walnuts, then I read about the great challenge of roasting peppers and now you introduce you to the miracle of eating fresh raw tomatoes. I feel as if I have grown up in a parralel reality because when I was a child there was nothing more natural than picking nuts directly from the tree and opening them with some stone from the yard or eating tomatoes exactly the same way as you do. I miss those times!

Neither are better - we need balance in our lives, and all whole, real foods offer us different nutrients and tastes. We may like specific foods more than others, but we still need balance.

I definitely could NEVER do this!!

I wish I loved veggies more (I do like them a lot!) but fruits are a clear favorite - they're soooooooo tasty!

fruit! i could definitely live upon apples and pears. i don't eat fruits that is grown in other climates such as mangoes and pineapple. they don't work well with my body! vegetables are great, but i could definitely live without them if required to choose! good post!

I would say that vegetables are better than fruit, in terms of nutrient density but also not spiking blood sugar. Shame I'm a sucker for sweet things and prefer fruits over veggies in terms of taste.

Interesting point about us being conditioned to see eating certain things in a certain way as 'normal-' why not bite into a tomato the same way as an apple?

And you look stunning in those photos - if that's what eating tomatoes does, I'm buying a huge stash right now ;)

we used to pick fresh tomatoes from our garden, sprinkles a little salt and pepper on them, and bite in! So juicy. Nothing beats it!

I like to eat tomatoes that way, but I always end up with a mess on my t-shirt from the sap spilling out. :D

I've never eaten a tomato like an apple like you, but I love just slicing one up, adding a bit of salt and pepper, and eating it like that. Fresh summer tomatoes are so tasty!

I love my veggies, but I love fruits more! Especially since squash counts as a fruit!

Fruits, fruits, fruits. I'm a fruit bat. I'm pretty sure I could be happy living on fruit.

hahaha this post is great. i always ask people, if you had to choose, fruits or veggies? most everybody says fruit. but i would say veggies all the way :)

Both are excellent, but I do love raw tomatoes. When I was little, my Grandmother would always give us tomatoes for snacks. Brings back memories!

Oh my goodness, I eat raw tomatoes like it's my job! I don't think I could ever choose between fruits and veggies though- they're both too delicious.

Love this post!

I love raw tomatoes! Especially the little yellow ones. I can't wait to plant my own this weekend, then I just have to wait for a crop :) My dad used to give us tomatoes dipped in sugar as a snack when we were kids!

I like vegetables WAY more than fruits, and I always eat tomatoes like apples. They are better than apples.
