In Flanders Fields

Remembrance Day 2011, dedicated to honour and
commemorate the sacrifices of fallen Canadian Soldiers

Normally I try to tie a theme in with my meal, but honestly there's really
no way to connect Remembrance Day with a Spinach, Onion, Cream Cheese
and Egg Scramble Wrap that's tucked into a Brown Rice Tortilla and grilled

So instead of trying, I will leave you with the most notable poem written
by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae on May 3, 1915 during World War 1

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
         In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
         In Flanders fields.

In memory of my Grandpa, Joe Beck, a Canadian Soldier during World War 2

Prayer: Feel free to leave a comment in memory of someone
you love who served in the war. Whether they have passed or are
still with us today, may they always be remembered in our honour

my grandfather was a five-year-old boy in italy during wwii. i once interviewed him for a school project, and he shared the details. the terrible terrible terrible details. it was the first, and perhaps only time, that anyone will ever see this strong man cry. i am so grateful to him. he ate boiled blood and dandelions for nourishment. as a former bulimic, that makes me sadder than ever imaginable. and i am grateful to your grandfather. x

that is a beautiful poem :) My grandpa also fought in WW2 and is a veteran. My uncle was a SEAL in the 70s-80s. Thanks for sharing the commemoration.
