Johnson Street Festival

Yesterday was the first ever Johnson Street Festival and Block Party

The lower half of Johnson St. a.k.a. 'LoJo' is well known for
designer shopping and local boutiques. For the first time,
they closed down LoJo for a Block Party and Sidewalk Sale

I got there a little too early and most of the booths we're only starting to set up

But I took a bunch of pictures you can scroll through...

Little girl in a Princess costume with a yellow balloon

Lululemon

Yoga Mats

Fitness/Bootcamp

Kettlebell Workout

Music Stage

The Zone @ 91.3

Skateboard Ramp

Rook & Rose Floral Boutique

Nathan's Montreal Old Fashioned Smoked Meat from Lully's Sandwich Bar

Guy getting a treatment from a ghost at the Chinese Medicine Clinic

Rebel Rebel Clothing's "Design Your Own Tote Bags"

I love the gray ankle boots!!!

Market Square had a fun Kid Zone set up for the little ones...

Crazy, weird and fun figurines

Craft Tables

There were tables to color and create your own t-shirt :)

The little boy in the picture was so excited to go in the bouncy castle that he
tripped, awe. But he was much too happy to bother with tears, what a trooper lol

There was a huge Cardboard Castle and Maze to play in and paint as well

Plus a smaller bouncy Dino for the younger children like myself ;)

PS. Chelsey made a gluten-free version of my "Fig Scuffins".
Check out her fabulous "Cranberry Walnut Scuffins" here

PSS. Asha tried out one of my stir-fries which you can check out here

Question: How have you been
spending the last August weekend?

Looks like a fun day. I've been spending the weekend being relatively lazy but enjoying the anniversary weekend with the hubs. Just the 2 of us. It's been nice and relaxing. Happy Sunday!

Hello lovely!

Why does it seem like Victoria has way more events going on than Vancouver!? That looks so fun!!

This weekend I'm a little under the weather so I'm just trying to relax so I can feel normal again!!!

Have a happy sunday!!!

That festival looks so neat! And Johnston St looks sooo charming!! It definitely looks like there were a lot of things to keep everyone entertained :D

I've spent my last weekend mostly hanging out with friends and just having fun. I've also been able to catch up on some sleep by not having to wake up early woo woo

XOXO

Sounds like a fun time - did you only spend time there before it opened, or did you get to wander around later as well?

I've spent my weekend doing many of my favorite things: making jam, reading (finished Mitch Albom's "Have a Little Faith" in two days, and cried my eyes out), running, and gardening.

Ooooh! lovely ankle boots! I've been wanting some so badly in either grey or black, but grey is certainly first choice. I just have to find theright ones!

This looks so neat!! What a fun way to spend the day. :) You definitely have the coolest stuff going on around you. I think it's awesome that you are always out finding these events.

My weekend hasn't been quite so exciting. The 'highlight' for me has been running 18 miles. Not super fun, but definitely feels good to be done. :)

Oooh, that does look like a fun kiddie zone. Even I want to play in there. Thanks fir sharing the wonderful pics.

Haha, "stir fries will rule the world." - luv it! You're too cute for words Kelsey!

I've been trying to soak up as much of the summer sun with the kiddies as I can. You know how many few summer days us Canadians get.

I love street festivals! Hah, I all your posts with muffins got me wanting one so that inspired my muffin/au lait breakfast. It was so good! It is definitely going to turn into a weekly thing.

What a cool event!!! I love how that part of the city has had such a turn around. I remember when I first moved to Victoria, some six years ago, I wouldn't go further than Johnson Street on Government - because it was sketch city. That was long before the days of the MEC building of course. Now it's an awesome place to be!

Amy B @ Second City Randomness said... [reply]

I ADORE those gray ankle boots. :)

I was scrolling slowly through the pics going "wow, looks like such a pretty day... oh it's nice... looks fun..." and then all the sudden, "SHOES!!!!"

:) Happy Sunday!

I love street festivals like this one! It looks like Lululemon had a little yoga session on the street - that's so fun!

This weekend I went on a 20 km bike ride with my mom, had a surprise going away party for my friend, and worked.

What a fun looking festival! I wouldn't mind playing in the bouncy bunny. :D Never got to as a child.. haha.

I've been spending my last week of August working but for the next few days I just get to relax.. and work on chemistry and math courses. Boo..

That festival looks like a good time!

I spent my weekend going to a few parties and just relaxing with the husband.

I am coming to vacation where you live.....you have the BEST festivals ever!!!!

Ellen@FirednFabulous said... [reply]

So fun! I love the street festivals in NYC. Although, the people in the massage tents are usually very pushy and annoying...not relaxing at all, ha! The weather was lovely this weekend, and sadly I didn't spend enough time outside. Well, I went to a cookout and had a nice walk in Central Park, but the rest of the time was spent sleeping and boozing. Not cool!

After reading your post I am desperate for someone to make me a cardboard box maze :P

Ameena said... [reply]

I want to live in Victoria! As would Maya because she would be all over that maze. I have to come and visit you because I think I would love your beautiful city.

My last week of August will be spent working away and catching up!

I'm leaving your blog now, feeling totally mellow...I love it!

I am such a fan of street festivals...the people, the art, the food all are so inspiring! Thank you for letting me journey with you to this one. I am spending my last week of August in grad school, which is both scary and exciting!

How fun! Love the photos! Exploring local festivals is such a great way to discover intriguing products, companies and people!

I spent the weekend MOVING! I've been on the go and without internet for a few days, so I'm really appreciating some R & R this evening. :-) Tomorrow I begin a new job...eek.

What a cool market!

I'm spending the weekend at a friend's college. Now I realize why my diet used to make me so sick!

Lindsay @ http://pancakesnpajamas.blogspot.com/ said... [reply]

What a fun festival! We need more things like that where I live. I love how kids can fall and be fine or fall and cry depending on their surroundings or what they are trying to get to. :) My last weekend in August was spent with good friends, good food, and cleaning closets.

Anonymous said... [reply]

What a cool place! I love the cardboard castle and those gray bootie shoes are adorable.

I wish we had festivals like this near where I live -- and if we do, I'll be sad to find out I've been missing them!

Jess @ MTL Veggie said... [reply]

That festival looks so fun, I want to be a kid again just so I can go play in the kiddie area!
Oh and I agree that those gray ankle boots are adorable!

I laughed really hard at the lose 10 000 pounds in 2010. Or was that lose 10 pounds with a comma instead of a decimal? My geeky brain is at work again ;) Looked like lotsa fun!

wendy @ ABCs and Garden Peas said... [reply]

I love outdoor festivals! They always bring out the most interesting people.

My last weekend in August was spent with my favorite boys, and included some gardening and a visit to our local farmer's market, where I made a new friend. Then, we let the baby skinnydip in his kiddie pool. Too fun!

What a cool festival!! I love that there are actually things to do there. Our street festivals are just so people can eat too much and get drunk...then stumble to an outdoor concert. Haha. Thanks for posting all the pictures, it looks like it was a gorgeous day!!
