Omelet FAIL

Cute huh? Little Egg-Heads :)

My attempts to make an omelet was semi-successful...

Other than eggs, it had mushrooms, swiss chard, gai-lan, red onion, salt & pepper

It cooked up nicely, but then when I tried to flip/fold it, "FAIL"

Although it's gross looking, it was a delicious "Scramlet" (Scramble + Omelet)

I'll attempt another next time, only without so many greens... I'm sure thats the error...

Okay, so giving up sugar is ROUGH! I'm definitely sticking with it though.
My energy, naturally, is down and I probably won't be writing too many wordy
posts in the next while... but hey, pictures are worth more than 1,000 words right?

that looks like something i eat often! not pretty but still tasty! hang in there, it takes a couple weeks to feel less groggy after cutting out sugar!

lol! At least it was good!!! I hope your energy gets rollin'.... you are doing wonderfully!!!

WHo cares about looks? That omelet is yummy and good for you!!!

Keep up with the no-sugar thing, Kelsey!!! You can do it!!!!

The scramble looks delicious! With those flavors, how can you go wrong? I have a suggestion though. If you put a lid on the pan while it cooks, you don't have to flip it. It will also souffle up a little, so if you want to flip it it should at that point.

You are doing great with no sugar...keep it up!

Hehee, I guess it's the taste that matters! At least you didn't burn it or anything :P

I mean I wouldn't call this a fail, still looks delicious ;)

Amy B @ Second City Randomness said... [reply]

Sorry about the fail... this morning was actually the first morning I had an omelet win! I've never gotten it down until today. But I had way less going on in mine than yours (unfortunately). So mine was probably a wee bit easier to work with...

Anonymous said... [reply]

I think it's an accidental win! And I may have to borrow the word scramlet as that typically happens to me too

That's no omelet fail, it's just an omelette evolution!! I used to dread omlette orders when I worked in a kitchen. Omlette making is not one of my best skills..

Good luck with getting through the post-sugar slump. I'm sure you can do it, and soon hopefully your body will feel revived. Are you giving up all sugar, including fruits?

Happy new year!

That's typically how my omelets end up when I attempt them ;-) As long as it tastes good though! And I just realized your comments have been going to my spam darn it.

I definitely think the issue here was too much food and not enough egg! Better luck next time :)

Tine said... [reply]

It still looks tasty!

Awww poor omelette :( yup, i think you put in too much yummy green stuff and not enough egg haha. When I used to make omelettes, I would scramble the egg, then pour it into the pan by itself and cook it almost until it was done, so that it was a thin layer covering the bottom of the pan, and then i would put my ''insides'' haha on one side of the egg, and then fold the over half on top. ....:/ kinda hard to explain. maybe i'll try and find you a video to show you better haha.
good luck next time and don't worry. it is HARD going without sugar. you are doing marvelously :)

I'M BACK! haha. Let Jamie Oliver demonstrate how I used to make my omelettes :p .....except without all the oil AND knob of butter lol.

at 2 min that's what i was trying to describe, about the even thin layer all 'round
good luuuuuuuck!

I love the scramlet! Maybe the greens and shrooms released too much water?

I dont think i could ever give up sugar completely but after the past holiday, I'm definitely working on limiting my intake!

kristi said... [reply]

I love all your pictures in your posts!

Anonymous said... [reply]

hahaha looove this - next time try putting the eggs on the skillet first, let them set, and then add the veggies. Once the eggs have set completely, halve it and cover it!

Jolene - EverydayFoodie said... [reply]

I am terrible at making omelets ... the hubby has to make them for me :-)

Jenn @ Peas and Crayons said... [reply]

I use the same giant pile of veggies... so much so that I end up having to add more eggs and then save half for later!

I think cutting the greens down a tad will def help -- yummy is yummy regardless though. =)

I'm giving up sugar for just this week and it is extremely hard!! This is my first day, but I'm sticking with it!!

And follow Chelsey's advice on the omelet making, you'll get it!

Emily Z said... [reply]

I hate making omelets! I always seem to screw them up. I can never understand how people can make them look so nice. At least they still taste good! ;)

Marianne (frenchfriestoflaxseeds) said... [reply]

Maybe try wilting/sauteeing the green before hand? Then they won't take up so much room and facilitate an easier flip :)

Lola said... [reply]

Definitelytoo many greens hehe when I make omelette I only add mushrooms and jalapeño! maybe some cheese grated on top?

I believe in you! Get your rest, you are doing a great job.

Leah @ Why Deprive? said... [reply]

Omelets are tricky suckers! I usually put the eggs in the pan first, and let them cook for a couple minutes before I add my fillings. Then you just have to fold it in half and dont have to worry about flipping it. Thats WAY too hard for me. :)

The omelet/scramble looked pretty amazing :)
You can do this, Kelsey!
I'm praying for you.

Kate (What Kate is Cooking) said... [reply]

As long as it tastes good, that's all that matters. And with those ingredients, it's bound to!

Jess said... [reply]

Omelets are HARD! But so worth it (whether it turns out or not). :)

Anonymous said... [reply]

need more egg, less vegetables

Heidi - Apples Under My Bed said... [reply]

ugly omelettes are the best :) It's because it is jam-packed with veggies, but that is how I roll too. Not so appealing to look at but amazing to eat!

Thanks for the new word of the day! I had never heard of gai-lan and so just googled it :)

Ayla said... [reply]

Who cares that your omelet was a fail, scramlet sounds way cuter. :3 I kind of want to make one just because of the name.

Paige (Running Around Normal) said... [reply]

Good for you for sticking with it!
You have much more will power than I do :)

Anonymous said... [reply]

LOL @ Scramlet. I've never heard that phrase before yet been victim to it many a times. How about cooking the egg a little at first then adding the chunkier ingredients? Thats what I do once in a blue moon when I do success at making an omelet.

Mary said... [reply]

The veggie:egg ratio was definitely the issue..but the end result still looked amazing!! Egg scrambles are way better anyway. ;)

Tatianna said... [reply]

That totally happens to me every time I make an omelette! Too many veggies and it always turns into some sort of scramble :P

Chelsea said... [reply]

I have the same problem with my omelets!!! I think I need to start making 4 egg omelets in order to fit in all my fillings. :P

Laury@The Fitness Dish said... [reply]

Sorry about the omelet fail....I hate when things like that happen. I am usually SO excited about the food I am making, that when it doesn't go as planned, I am super bummed. You are too cute with your egg heads :-)

Sugar detox.......that's totally what I need after these past 2 weeks! It is super hard! I admire you for sticking to it!

Anonymous said... [reply]

ahahah i cannot even tell you how many times I have started with an omelette and ended with a scramble!

Joanne said... [reply]

Not gonna lie, I have never successfully flipped an omelet. Ever. I don't even try anymore. Scrambled eggs taste just as good lol. All the veggies make it look so delish!

Carlyn said... [reply]

haha I always like to stuff my omelets to the extreme and it never ends well:P
sometimes I like to make it more like I would a mini frittata so there is no flipping involved (:

Kelsey said... [reply]

taste is all that matters

Anonymous said... [reply]

Still looks great to me! Keep up the great work w/ the sugar. You WILL do it!
