Sugar Hangover

Yesterday, just in time for New Year's Eve, I received a package in the mail!

It was my Giveaway Win from the oh so lovely Mary @ Bites and Bliss

The card was so cute, and the wrapping paper, even cuter!!!

I couldn't wait to rip inside :)

COOKIES, CANDIES, CHOCOLATE, TREATS!

Snowballs and Chocolate Peppermint Candy Cane Bark :)

Mary, you seriously outdid yourself; Clearly I hit the Jackpot!

And because it wasn't officially 2011 yet, I devoured 4 snowball
cookies and 1.5 of the chocolate candy cane bark. Trust me, these
were so worth the Sugar Hangover i'm feeling this morning :P

But alas, it's "Out with the Old, In with the New" ... time to wave farewell
to SuGaR. I'll post pictures of the new (more balanced) foods I'm eating
and recipes i'm creating. Thank God we have so many sugar-free
bloggers out there to help me us on this journey!

Question: Who's giving up the sugar this year?

I don't really eat a lot of sugar to tell you the truth. If I do eat sugar, it's cane sugar. I only use ti when baking and even then I usually halve it! :)

Happy New Year Kelsey!

I'm giving up sweeteners and sugars for a brief period. But, I still have 4 pieces of fruit and a tablespoon of honey a day. Fruit has sugar, as does the milk I drink, but it must be healthy? There is a promotion among some bloggers to eat no fruit because of the fructose content. But I'm addicted to at least 4 pieces a day of whole fruits.

Although I'm not giving up sugar completely, I'm reducing it to a minimum.. I can't wait to see the recipes you post :)

i use a little stevia (read: 1/4-1/2tsp total daily) but no sugar for me besides what occurs naturally in some fruits it's difficult at first (because raw maple syrup/molasses are so tasty haha) but you can do it! i do NOT miss the headaches from sugar!

Happy New Year, Kelsey! I hope you have a fantastic 2011! :)

Nope there is no way I can cut out sugar!! I dont make my hubby eat like I do, because he LOVES his chocolate chip cookies. If I messed with those I think he might leave me ;) I wont cut out sugar, but I do hope to limit it! Good luck!!

What a great gift! Um, well, I don't do a lot of sugar, but I have noticed my stevia intake has really increased. I think I need to start to back off of that a bit. Can't wait to see what you come up with! Happy New Year Kelsey!

"Giving it up" is in no way possible for me, as I love it too much, but I am "downsizing" my sugar. I'm excited that there are so many others with this same goal in mind though, so maybe I'll have some good inspiration and ideas.
Happy New Year!

Oh I think I definitely have to do some sort of cleanse to rid myself of my sugar addiction. I love it in all it's forms....candy, pastries, fruits, juice, pasta, and especially bread! :P

I'll work on it though!

Anywho - here's wishing you a Happy New Year!!!! 2011 will no doubt be awesome for you!

I am going to try to give up sugar, but my top priority is animal products, one of my goals is to switch to a vegan diet this year. Those treats looked delicious though :)

Joanne said... [reply]

I could never give up sugar entirely but I definitely need a break from it! Although these treats look so delicious...

Giving up sugar!!? Heck no!! I am not giving up anything :-)

I am boarding your no-sugar ship! LOL I think chocolate might be on my list of give up things as well. For me giving up sugar includes fruit, because it bothers my stomach sometimes and I think it contains a lot of sugar that does not do my well. YAY! I hope we can all support each other in our non-sugar efforts, because it is going to be HARD.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Haha! I totally should :) But considering I started off this morning with a big plate of cinnamon rolls, I'm not exactly doing so well. But I could never give up something that makes me so happy. Cut down maybe, but never deprive :)

Happy New Year!!

I moderate sugar pretty well most of the time, so I'm definitely not cutting it out all together! :)

That would be a major milestone for me to give up sugar, though I know I would feel so much better if I did! I am going to give it a shot at eating less sugar and less candy that I usually do though!
Good luck to you!!
Cheers to a wonderful 2011~!

Muah! Glad you are not at our house, my fiances mom made 12 different christmas cookies this year, and sent a ton home with us!!!!!!!!!!! I will not eat them, but the boys will! I actually am not a huge sweets person, but I do like some icecream ; )

Happy New Year, Kelsey! Major props to you for cutting out sugar in 2011...that takes incredible dedication and self-restraint! If anything, I need to cut out artificial sweeteners...I think using real sugar (or other natural sweeteners) is healthier than using the fake stuff (which I consume too much of!). But if you can give up both, all the better!

Glad you went out with a bang and enjoyed those cookies! <3

Gotta love blogger love! She really did treat you well.

As for sugar-avoidance, of which I am familiar...what's your perogative?

Striving to avoid ANY sugar (fruit juice concentrate, Agave, Honey, Molasses, pectin, anything ending in "ose", brown rice syrup..etc) or just refined sugar in general?

I notice you eat a"bar" quite often. Which is where I ran into problems. They were all off limits...even Lara Bars ....which is one reasons I am so thankful I finally strayed from my meal plan. (0: Even dried fruit was shunned.

Im super curious...I was placed on a STRICT no sugar meal plan and its easy to get around...but I find myself thinking "what's wrong with some brown rice syrup every once in a while?"

Spponful of Sugar Free <--- Go there if you haven't. She's cool with natural sugars, too.

Me? I'm all mixed up for now but I continue to feel like there's nothing wrong with some honey here or there maybe?

How strict are you gonna go?

bakingnbooks said... [reply]

Are you giving it up completely?

I try to watch my intake. And my recipes are low-to-no sugar, but I don't deprive myself!

How is your yoga training going?! :)...I'm not teaching, let alone practicing. Maybe it's just not meant for me at this time in my life and I shouldn't feel bad about it...I don't know.

OMG good luck Kelsey!!!! I'm going to give up dairy! I already quit milk so it can't be that hard :) I have a package full of goat cheese just in case ;)

I was forced to give up the sugar because of diabetes. I didn't do it willingly, I might add, but I have found lots of wonderful, sweet-tasting alternatives. If you need any recipe ideas, stop by my blog! (All Day I Dream About Food).

Marianne (frenchfriestoflaxseeds) said... [reply]

No sugar giving up here - I'm not into eliminating foods, just adjusting their quantities. I'd like to focus on eating more of certain foods rather than think about not eating others. If you focus on eating more of what you want to eat, you'll have less room to eat those you might want to limit, and it all happens naturally :)

Happy New Years!

I just realized that you covered your address. I was like "she must be widely known" haha! I'm such an idiot sometimes.

I gave up sugar (but not fruit) in November and I'm planning to do it for one full year. I'll definitely be checking back to see how you are doing. My husband and I got a waffle maker for Christmas and I'm sad that I can't have waffles with syrup :-( Guess I'll have to wait until my year is up. Good luck to you!
