Vancouver Part Four: Monstrous Muffins

Brown bag of groceries from Whole Foods Market

In Vancouver, Whole Foods Markets are merged
with the original Capers Community Markets

Let's have a peek inside shall we?

All the groceries laid out

I know everyone calls Whole Foods "Whole Paycheck", but compared to
how expensive food is back in Victoria, Whole Foods is quite affordable!

$53.44 for 18 items

Here's a closer look at the items I bought...

Mango Papaya Coconut Elevate My Breakfast! Bars

Organic Kale

Raincoast Trading Canned Wild Skinless Boneless Pink Salmon

Beef Sausage Chorizo (6 pieces)

"We brew a Root Beer so pure, so rich and
creamy, you'll swear it's made in heaven"

Jamaican Style Ginger Ale

Natural Whey Vanilla Ice Cream Protein Powder

Bouquet Garni Spice Blend

Ingredients: Parsley, chives, bay leaf, thyme, dillweed,
marjoram, lemon peel, rosemary, savory, garlic, onion

Aura Cacia Euphoria Aromatherapy Bath Oils

Now onto the 3 different Muffins I bought...

First up, the Gluten Free Ginger Rice Muffin

With a decadent Crystallized Ginger topping

Sadly a few big chunks of Crystallized Ginger
look like they're missing... hehe I wonder why ;)

Next up, the Power Muffin

I can't remember if I read the sign right, but i'm
sure it said there's chocolate chips in here! (I hope so)

Last, but definitely not least...

Chocolate Espresso Muffin

With whole Espresso Beans and big Chocolate Chunk pieces

Of course I photographed every angle of this scrumptious creation!

I agree that Whole Foods isn't *that* expensive. Food in general is expensive in Canada, so perhaps in the US it seems like WF is way up there in comparison to places like Trader Joes and whatnot. WF here definitely carries items I can get at Thrifty's for a cheaper price. I do think their hot bar is pricey though - I can't get out of there without dropping at least $12 on lunch (before tax and drink).

The only one of those muffins I've had is the chocolate chunk espresso - very tasty. I don't do ginger, so that one I would probably never try. And I always look at the power muffin, and get distracted by other things with copious amounts of chocolate or peanut butter. HA!

I agreee WF doesn't seem to be much more expensive than other places. I love your muffins they look good. Have you ever been to a Good Earth Cafe? They have good muffins there

Oh Lordy I need one of those last chocolatey coffee muffins. It would be worth the plane ticket over just to get my paws on one...I'd have picked out the chocolate chunks as opposed to ginger on the other muffin...the poor muffin would end up looking like a swiss cheese full of holes...

Holy muffin tops!! My goodness, they are like space ships!
I am mad at my Whole Foods because they (overnight) raised their price of almond butter from 4.99 to $7!! I was speechless. So sad. But I sitll go there for the occasional nutritional yeast, produce, and dinner.

Mmm, that spice blend sounds like it would be great!

Those have GOT to be the biggest muffin tops ever! They're like UFO'S! Haha! So jealous of your chocolate espresso muffin!

Mmmm this makes me miss Whole Foods (although the Vancouver one looks way nicer than the Toronto one!). Those muffins look incredible, especially the chocolate espresso one.

I grew up shopping at Capers, and even recently lived near the one on Robson Street downtown Vancouver! I miss it so much! I grew up on those muffins and can taste that espresso chocolate just looking at it (love it). Be sure to try their lemon tarts and Mexican weddding cakes one day if you get a chance :)
