Don't Like the Drugs but the Drugs Like Me

Haha thought I would quote some Marilyn Manson for a post title...

IM ALIVE AND DOING FINE!

Surgery went very well, and I took a few photos to share with you too! haha...

it's the valium, i swear!

mommy took the day off work to care for me :) Thanks Mom!

please tell me none of you we're eating breakfast...

oh Kelsey, what did you expect!?!

My dentist did a really good job though. The assistant even got me a nice blanket and pillow to help me relax. I'm pretty good with needles so I didn't mind the Saline IV.

Once he put the valium medicine in it, it took about 1 minute before the room got blurry and I started to relax...ahhh...

I didn't feel anything at all and i'm pretty sure I was in and out of sleep. It was very similar to taking 2 sleeping pills and trying to stay awake.

It took about an hour all together, which felt more like 15 minutes for me. I only had to take a two hour nap when I got home, and then I was feeling pretty good. Well with some Tylenol #3 of course...

I was unintentionally a raw foodie today; it was a repeat of smoothies consisting of these 3 things and lots of ice.

I also read online that pineapple is a remedy in Switzerland (or Sweden?) for Wisdom teeth, eaten before and after removal. I guess the bromelain speeds healing. The acid burnt like **** but I feel so much better today.

Me and my sheep hot water bottle :)

I can chew pretty well now, so I will be trying out my egg and kale wrap as well as a bunch of sweet potatoes. The only pain I feel now is from the bottom teeth since the dentist had to chip away some of my jaw bone to pull the impacted wisdoms out. The stitches go along the side of my mouth which feels really weird...

Hey at least I don't look like this...

All your comments were quite amazing! They were just what I needed to give me back my .... mojo?... yea :)

Oh and because there were quite a few of you who didn't know what Nanaimo Bars were (which is unfortunate!) I thought I would fill you in quickly.

They are a Canadian dessert bar that requires no baking; Named after the city of Nanaimo, British Columbia. Essentially, the dessert is a home-made candy bar and can be sweet enough to make your teeth ache lol. seriously. The bottom layer is Graham wafer crumbs mixed with coconut and nuts. The middle layer is a SWEET custard, and the top is chocolate.

They were my favorite dessert growing up... well I mean what kid didn't love a good sugar rush right!!!

Question: Growing up, did your family
have any special dessert recipes that
most people have never heard of?

I hope you get better quick!! I remember feeling reallllly good with the valium and laughing gas... but you deserve it when you're getting surgery!

Hope you get to feeling better soon! I looked like someone had punched me in the face after I got my wisdom teeth out!

Spinach and Mozzarella cheese. I guess I forgot to label them! haha

Oh goodness, I have to get my wisdom teeth out too and I definitely don't want to look like that hahah. Poor girl :(

Oh I feel your pain, it's the worst! I hope you have a very quick recovery!!!!

Anonymous said... [reply]

Well I'm glad you seem to be recovering so well! But still make sure to relax- definitely don't overdo it for the next couple of days!

(I watched about 15 movies over the span of 3 days... it was awesome) And I made my mom go on walks with me. Because it was probably not a good idea to go by myself...

I am glad you are done with surgery and I hope you get better quickly! I remember how bad it was! Just don't go too fast on the food! Take your time. We didn't really do crazy desserts when I was younger. Cobbler was a favorite around our house.

Get better soon!

I'm glad that the surgery went well and that you feel ok!
Get some rest, don't exert yourself, and I hope you'll be able to enjoy some good eats.
Special desert. Well, it was more like a snack, and I stil keep eating and loving it. Mashed banana with cottage cheese, and some honey in it. Amazing

oh Kelsey I feel your pain. I got mine taken out two years ago it was horrible. Were yours impacted? All of mine were, which made it especially painful. And I had such bad reactions to all the medicines they gave me. Enjoy lots of smoothies and milkshakes!

My mom used to make this thing called sorbet pie. She used like every flavor of sorbet so it was super colorful! Reminds me of childhood

feel better hun!!!

People don't know what Nanaimo bars are?! That's crazy! I had no idea they were a Canadian thing.

For just getting your wisdom teeth out, you look awesome! I was such a chipmunk and it was worse because I already have a naturally round face.. lol.

Anonymous said... [reply]

You poor thing! Hang in there! I had my wisdom teeth taken out in high school and it was not fun! :(

Anonymous said... [reply]

Glad everything went well! Be sure to keep your cheeks cool though, use an ice pack or better keep on drinking delicious smoothies ;) Get well soon sweetie!!!

xoxo Mel

BTW your Nanaimo bars look totally awesome!

Anonymous said... [reply]

Wow! I didn't know they were Canadian!! (The Nanaimo bars. I should have figured!)

Anyways. I love the pictures of you and your gaping mouth. I started laughing at my computer screen while I was brushing my teeth. It was great. Time to clean my monitor now...

Hopefully you'll be up and functioning like your normal snacking squirrelly self in no time! I don't like the drugs either but the drugs like me, too. That's a story for another time though... :-)

warm wishes and smooth foods,
Aletheia xo

I just want to give you a hug girl. Glad you're not totally down for the count! Thanks for explaining what that dessert is.

I wasn't eating breakfast, but I am eating lunch... Ouchie! I feel for ya, girl! It's great to hear that you're doing well, though, and that the whole thing wasn't too much of an ordeal. I hope you're able to eat your beloved sweet potatoes again without too much pain. Smoothies are great and all, but I'd imagine they'd get kind of played out after an entire day.

Rest up and feel better soon. Lots of hugs for you!

Oh, this brings back memories... I hope you heal up real quick!!

I'm so glad to hear that your wisdom teeth removal went well. Mine was a complete disaster and I was in pain for 6 months afterwards. So, I am very happy for you that you had a good dentist!

Anonymous said... [reply]

I am happy to hear you are home and recovering well lady! I didn't know about those bars before you posted them either but they do sound amazing and I am sure my dad has tons of that custard powder since hes a brit!

We didn't have any unusual desserts..just crumbles..white chocolate chocolate chip cheesecake...and some others!

Anonymous said... [reply]

aww, I'm glad it went OK.

The pictures are adorable! I love the sheep! :)

Anonymous said... [reply]

Glad it all went well :) you look so cute in those pics hahaha

Anonymous said... [reply]

Good to hear all went well and that you are being well cared for. Hope you continue to feel better.

Anonymous said... [reply]

Hey love! Glad you are feeling better today. I still have my wisdom teeth (even though I probably shouldn't) so I have no idea what it feels like to have them removed, but from what I've heard, it can be quite painful. I'm glad you were doped up on meds and didn't feel much.
Love the picture of the chipmunk...they are just too cute for words! I wouldn't want to have those cheeks either, but they are certainly adorable on that little guy.
Its funny that people don't know what Nanaimo bars are...or to me, its funny because I'm Canadian and they are pretty much in every bakery here (and they sell them at Starbucks). But they obviously aren't quite as big in the states.
Hope you continue to feel better! xoxo

I am so glad that are you healing up!! Wisdom teeth removal can be painful. I remember when I got mine out I got so frustrated about not having solid foods that I just tried to eat it anyway and I got dry sockets.. SO BE CAREFUL! Don't use straws and don't be overambitious in healing lol. Oh my gosh those first pictures had me laughing so hard. Especially the first one! But really, I am so happy that it went well. I remember when I got mine taken out and they put me to sleep I was scared of having them know I was drifting away into lala land. Lol I remember the doctor asking me if I was okay and then I responded that I was but in my head my voice sounded like slooooow motion. And then I was thinking "oh crap now they know!" And then I passed out I think lol. Then when they were done and I woke up, I immediately got out of my seat and headed towards the side exit. The nurse quickly saw me and put me back on the seat and said to wait lol. Then I got up again. It must've been the drugs!!!

XOXO hope you have a speedy recovery

But I'm glad you're feeling better, sweet girl. Nothing like a gorgeous chocolate treat to cheer you up!

Glad everything went well. I hate the dentist, totally cried once.

You are so tough!

aww you poor thing :( I had mine taken out a few years back and it is not fun. Rest up - and I am sending speedy recovery wishes your way :)

Laury@TheFitnessDish said... [reply]

Oye....I'm glad you're feeling better :( The dentist sucks...I feel you. NOT fun. The unintentional RAW, liquid meals always makes me want REAL food even more...idk why??? It's like you want what you can't have. Feel better soon!!!

Kelsey said... [reply]

Hope you feel 100% soon. I had one heck of a time with my wisdom teeth. It's looks like you're already doing better than most people. Enjoy the smoothies, soup, and scrambled eggs!

Kris said... [reply]

I am glad you are back doll!! You look very cute all snuggled up with your water bottle :)

I still need to get my teeth pulled and I am so scared!

Hahaha, that is funny that no one knew what nanaimo bars were! SO yummy!

*blushes* Most fun person ever? That is like the best award ever right? :) My cereal was more like "there's nothing to eat in the house and I love cereal and it's fast to make." hah! I'm making sure we go to the grocery store tomorrow because my eats are slacking. I resorted to tortilla chips with melted cheddar cheese on top today. So nutritious hahaha

girl i am so glad you're alive and well. that 1st pic is a riot. At least you're feelin no pain right about there :)

My grandma/mom made all kinds of russian and polish specialty items that no one had a clue about!

Crystal said... [reply]

You are taking having your wisdom teeth pulled so well! I am such a wuss about that kind of stuff. And unfortunately, everything my family made growing up is not too uncommon.

Clean Eating Chelsey said... [reply]

Your cheeks don't look too bad! The first picture I saw, I was like.. man, she's doing pretty good. Then I giggled a little bit when I saw the inside of your mouth. Not because I think it's funny you're in pain or anything, but I was imagining some people who can't take things like that (such as my FH) looking at it while they were eating. That made me chuckle. Lucky for me, I can take it! GOod luck with your recovery. You made me laugh tonight!

Chelsea said... [reply]

I'm glad it went well for you! Enjoy your next few days of healing, relaxing and smoothie drinking! :)

You and your sheep hot water bottle are too cute!!

When I was younger my sister and I would always have a bowl of bananas, milk, and chocolate chips for dessert. Kind of weird, but we loved it!

erica said... [reply]

You poor thing! Glad it well for you though. I have to get mine out but I am so chicken that I dont want to! Hope you feel better!

I'm so glad you came out of it okay! The first day and night are rough but things improve quickly after that!! I hope you feel better soon. :)

My mom used to make date muffins all the time and now I make them all the time. I am still trying to figure out a gluten-free version though!

Anonymous said... [reply]

wow..your brave..I'm afraid of this day...maybe I won't have too?!?! hope you feel better and recover soon! we don't have any exciting desserts...banana pudding was really the only thing I remember making...ohh. and "jello jigglers"

Thanks for the hug babe! I'm sending one to you too! I had my wisdom teeth out when I was a senior in high school - funny story: I'm a really nice girl, very polite, sweet to a T, but apparently the medicine they used to sedate me had an after affect: me being a totallll bitch! They explained to me afterwards that it's common for young adults under the age of 25 to act agressively as a result of the sedative. Crazy, right? I apparently cussed out one of the nurses and had no idea! I didn't remember a thing! I had to go back and apologize because I felt so bad lol I hope you feel better soon! (:

j3nn.net said... [reply]

I'm glad you're doing well!! I had one wisdom tooth pulled when I was 18, it wasn't too bad after a day or 2.

I actually made Nanaimo Bars before! OMG, they are phenomenal!!!

My family made too many desserts to even count, lol. All of them were special in their own way I guess. haha

awwww I hope you feel better soon but enjoy those smoothies for now!
and omg I LOVE nanaimo bars!! I used to have the hardest time saying "nanaimo" and still do hahah. They are almost too sweet even...which is crazy with my sweet tooth!
the swelling will go down quick though, just ice lots!

Aww you poor girl! I'm sorry, Kels. (That just reminded me: do people call you Kels all the time? They do for me!)

I actually saw that Vega Whole Foods Infusion pack at Whole Foods a while back... is it good?

Good luck! Hope you feel better soon! <3

You're awesome to post those pictures! I remember (sorta) getting my wisdom teeth out. They put me right to sleep and when I got home Mom put me to bed with a bag of frozen peas on my face and a few Tylenol #3's! Thankfully, I didn't bruise up. You're looking pretty good all considered! :)
