When I think of childhood cereal memories, I think of these guys...
Snap! Crackle! Pop!
Not only did Rice Krispies cereal make fun noises in the
milk, but it also made for delicious Rice Crispy Squares!
milk, but it also made for delicious Rice Crispy Squares!
I really wanted to try making chocolate and
candy rice crispy squares instead of the plain
white with marshmallow ones.
I wanted these to have candy too! Reese's Pieces,
Trail Mix, and M&M minis!!!
1/3 cup butter over medium heat
add in 1 whole bag of marshmallows until melted
When the mixture is melted, remove from heat, then
add a whole box; 8 cups of Rice Krispies cereal
Stir really well
Now it's time to add the candy!!!
M&M minis
Reese's Pieces
Press the crispies firmly down with a spatula, creating a nice flat top.
Let it cool for a couple hours before cutting or eating. Rice Crispy Squares always taste better the next day once it has time to settle and the marshmallows firm up.
And a little close up of everything packed in there...
Question 1: What was your favorite childhood cereal growing up? Any fun memories?
Question 2: Have you made rice crispy squares before? Or used cereal in your baking?

those rice krispie treats are LOADED! Love it!
I actually use rice krispies often to make "scotcheroos". Which is similar, but uses peanut butter instead of marshmallows. And has a layer of butterscotch and chocolate on top... they're like crack.
I loved fresh rice krispie treats when I was younger. There was something magical about the warm gooeyness that was ever so enticing. My grandmother always seemed to make the best; she said her secret ingredient was love and I definitely think that makes all the difference. But man, yours are loaded! I've only ventured into adding sprinkles, but you take it to a WHOLE new level.
Have a lovely day!

P.S. I'm so glad to see your posts are showing up again! I was wondering what happened...
You are a genius! How did you think of that?
This must be the most colourful and tasty bar, ever.
Yowza! Those Rice Krispie treats are insaneeee. I used to make Rice Krispie squares all the time when I was younger, but mine were never as complicated [read: delicious] as yours. They were just the basic cereal, marshmellow, butter mixture.
As for favorite childhood cereals, Corn Pops, Lucky Charms, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Cap'n Crunch topped my list :)
Those look amazing! I actually have never been the biggest rice crispy treat fan. I do like them, but it's kind of like pie. I like it, but I like other treats so much more!
I loved cereal as a kid! Every kind of cereal. I especially loved Lucky Charms. I would eat all of the cereal and leave the marshmallows for last.
I found this great Oatmeal Ball recipe on marthastewart.com and it calls for rice cereal...first dessert I've ever made with cereal and they are fabulous!
Whooaa! Those things look seriously delicious :P
My favorite cereal growing up was definitely Fruity Pebbles.

i loved apple jacks as a kid. omg sooo good. i would eat them one by one to make them last forever.
ooooh yummo - how good do these look!!!! My favourite childhood treat would have to be rocky road - actually....it probably still is one of my favourite treats ;)
Oh my goodness. Why did you do this to me?! I want some of those NOW!! Haha :)
I loved Golden Grahams and Life cereal as a kid... in fact, I'd still eat both of those now!
That's some seriously deliciousness right there!
Lucky charms was my favorite ;) And, I once made froot loop krispee treats before <3
wow...those look divine.
My favorite childhood cereal was definitely cinnamon toast crunch!!! I ate so freaking much of it as a kid.
And no, I have never made rice krispies before, but I do love them. Haven't used cereal in my baking either. Gotta get on that!
I used to like all the sugary ones...especially peanut butter Cap'n Crunch. I liked Grape-nuts too. But they made my mouth tired from chewing.
I like to make plain rice krispy treats and then dip them in chocolate and nuts. I also like to stir some melted nut butter in with the marshmallow!
That is one healthy rice krispies square! I've never thought of putting trail mix in.
I think my favorite childhood cereal was frosted flakes. Now that I think of it, that stuff is all sugar! No fiber, no protein. I used to hate milk so that was the only way you could get me to drink milk, cause the sugar gets the milk all sweet & tasty :-D
I think you added just about all my favorite things into one bit! YUM! I loved oat bran...ya not sure what kind of kid i was but I lived off oat bran :)
When I wasn't vegan I use to loooove rice krispy squares! So good. None looked quite as delicious as yours though. :D
My favorite cereal as a child would have had to be Fruit Loops, Sugar Crisp, and Lucky Charms. Although.. the only reason I liked the Lucky Charms was because of the marshmallows. All the other stuff got left behind.
I loved this post! I haven't had a rice krispie in sooooo loong. I know they are easy to make but I'm not sure I've ever tried. My friends mom would always have them on hand. Yours look better than any I've ever had! So much goodness :)
I love rice crispies--yours look amazing. I sometimes make them with chocolate chips for my fiance--i'll have to try your recipe next time, I know he'd love them!
Oh darlin...my heart used to belong to these 3 little men. For my birthdays my mom wouldn't make cake she would make LARGE candy filled rice crispy squares.
I wish I still ate these...dang there good!
I loved captin crunch and cinnamon toast crunch....mmmm
XXOO
I grew up on very simple and boring Kellog's corn flakes because my mum (always being the dental hygienist) wasn't a fan of the sugary stuff.
I've never made rice crispies but I have to admit that I can't stand marshmallows.. Ugh.. that taste and texture! ;)
as a kid i could eat a half a pan of r.k. treats in a sitting. seriously i love rice kr treats!!! THese look GREAT!
I recently made a dessert similar to rice crispy treats with brown rice puffs that didn't work as well so I need to get the right ones next time because those look amazing lady! I added chocolate chips and used brown rice syrup so they still tasted good...
My favorite cereal was cheerios or oats actually because my parents didn't allow sugary cereal at all. I don't miss it cause I never had it!
this is so much fun :D
I used to like cocoa pops! And I loved this muesli type thing that had milk chocolate chips in, and I just ate those and left the actual cereal/dried fruit bits (:
I don't think I've ever had rice crispy squares! When I was little we used to just melt a big bar of chocolate, and then stir in cornflakes, or shredded wheat - it was amazing!
xxxxx
OMG; this is the most amazing recipe I have ever seen!
Oh my! These looks amazing! I haven't had a rice crispy treat since I was in high school... they used to be my favorite! I forgot how easy they are to make.. and I love your addition of mix-ins! YUM
I LOVE rice krispie treats and I love what you added in these!! My son would love the reeses added in!! Yummy!!!! Its best to eat them when they are still warm!!!!
My fave cereal growing up was Golden Grahams, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Cocoa Puffs!!
I loved cocoa puffs especially, it would turn the milk all chocolatey!!!!
Love ya!!! xoxo
so funny! my sister made rice crispie treats yesterday! hahah. i had one for lunch :] and yours look absolutely delicious!
i think rice crispies were definitely the cereal to permeate my childhood. i'd always listen to hear for the snap crackle pop, but they all sounded the same! haha :]
xx
<3
oh gosh...I want to make those!!!
What a treat! Fun add ins! My favorite treat cereal growing up was Captain Crunch. My mom wouldn't buy it for us because of all the sugar! On the regular I would eat shredded wheat :)
LOVE your blog! the name is just too cute. :)
my favorite snack growing up was really disgusting actually. i loved bologna. i would squeeze a little bit of ketchup down the middle and then roll it up like a wrap. talk about nastay. ;)
i've never made rice krispy treats before but now i REALLLLY want to. with peanut butter.
om nom nom.
wow, I want to eat my computer screen. those look amazing!
I loved Apple Jacks. I could eat the whole box and my mouth would just be raw. I haven't had rice crispy treats since I went vegetarian and have not tried to find a veggie friendly marshmallow. I LOVED rice crispy treats though.
These are some SERIOUS rice krispies treats! I love your mix-ins. Now all they need is some peanut butter. And maybe some coconut. Oh I need to make these.
I wonder what other kinds of cereal you could use to make marshmallow-y treats....hmmm. You've opened up the floodgates!
These rice krispie treats are no joke! They look amazing!
I used to eat cereal every single day as a kid. My favorites were Honey Nut Cheerios, Captain Crunch, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Lucky Charms. Yep, I was a sugar addict - ha!
I think golden grams were definately my favorite growing up. The milk always tasted so good after all the cereal was gone!
oh man, I haven't had those in forever! Great additions :)
I make rice crispy squares a lot for the kids. I should try some of your add ins! As a kids I loved when Mom treated us to a box of Alphabits because it was fun to play with!! LOL
Those look absolutely divine!
xo
mmmmmm i love these treats!! crispy treats were so fun to make growing up! such a yummy sticky mess!
Oh Man! These really put plain rice crispy treats to shame!
Holy loaded rice krispies! I LOVE melty ooey gooey fresh out of the oven rice krispie treats! These look awesome - I love all the candy and variety :)
Mmm THOSE look SO good!!! I have to try making those. I have a couple BBQ's this weekend so maybe that will be my time to try em. Hope you're having a great week love!
PS Did you watch The Bachelorette last night?!
OMG can you say yum!!!
I have a long history with childhood cereals... I devoted an entire post to it so I will spare you that!
Thank you for your lovely comment, BTW. It was very thoughtful of you.
<3 <3
Rice Krispy squares are AMAZING! I think my favorite childhood snack is puppy chow. Cereal is just the way to go!
Those look delicious! My favorite childhood treat was "puppy chow." It was soooo good! Chex, chooclate, and powdered sugar.
When we make rice crispies, we use the rice krispy cereal, peanut butter, sugar, and chocolate chips. We don't even use marshmallows; the pb holds it together and we melt the chocolate chips on top. SOO good!
Yum! What a great way to kick rice krispie squares up a notch. ;) I would love to try putting a crumbled caramilk bar in these!
Wow those rice krispie treats look SO GOOD!!! I love the idea of loading them up with stuff. Ia ctually had a rice krispie treat yesterday for the first time in ages, but it was not as good as those look!
What a wonderful blog! I loved Cinnamon Toast Crunch growing up, but I also adored Rice Crispy Treat Cereal. So sugary, but so so good!
i always loved listening to my rice krispies.
i loved ALL sugar cereals but my mom only bought me "non colorful" ones like honey comb and golden grahams so that's what i get nostalgic for.
I loved eating Cream of Wheat for breakfast, just with a few packets of (white!) sugar, and some milk. I ate it that way all the time, which sounds so bland and kind of gross now.
I don't think I've ever made Rice Krispies treats before, but I've certainly eaten them plenty.
i definitely made those rice crispy treats when i was younger! i have made them with fruity pebbles and frosted flakes as well! i loved putting chocolate chips in them and eating them straight out of the oven when the chocolate would be all gooey and melted! definitely haven't eaten them in awhile but they do bring back good memories!
umm i think im drooling..haha joking, but these look so yummy!
im actually working on my recipe page, and one that im adding is my rice crispy recipe that uses half rice crispy cereal and half honey nut cheerios..there so good, ive never added any candy to it but definatly plan on trying it out!
Love your blog girl, glad i stumbled across it!!
