Baby Soft Skin

Some of you have been asking me about my Daily
Skin Care Routine and the products I currently use.

Here's a little guide of my current Beauty Regime...

Before we talk Skincare, let's talk Haircare!

Pineapple Shampoo and leave-in Conditioner from Circle of Friends

Local Shampoo & Conditioner from Earth Spirit Organics. I rotate between products, but my favortie is Avalon Organics. The fragrance is bold
yet not over-powering, and my hair is left consistently knot-free and lightweight.

I wash my hair 3-4 times a week. It's important to remember that
too much washing depletes the natural oils our scalps produce
to moistures the roots and keep hair healthy and strong.

Truthfully, I almost never wear makeup! Our skin is a living organ that
needs to breathe, therefore daily application of foundation and makeup
tends to cause breakouts and irritation.

Many people tell me that i'm fortunate to have never had acne or pimples, but its only because I keep my pores clean and only apply makeup or concealer for special occasions.

Of course, if you're used to wearing makeup daily, it can be hard to go all-natural. My advice is to choose certain times when you're more comfortable without makeup, and give your skin a chance to breathe fresh oxygen.

Also, immediately after arriving home, remove your makeup!
The best Makeup Remover is "Take the Day Off"by Clinique.
It's so gentle and makeup litterally melts off without effort.
Your skin is left moisturized and refreshed instead of red and dehydrated.

Okay, now it's time to Re-hydrate and create Baby Soft Skin!

Like most, my skin is extrememly sensitive. Finding products that don't irritate is frustrating and even "hypoallergenic" brands can be quite harsh.

Origins linked up with Dr. Andrew Weil to create

Easy application and skin is left noticeably glowing.
Your skin starts to tingle as well which is a really fun sensation ;)

One thing I quickly wanted to share with you is that there are certain products that you CAN wear daily to enhance your features while avoiding breakouts and clogged pores... Mascara and Lipgloss!

Recently I found a wonderful Black Mascara by Korres from Sephora. There's no globbiness, no clumping, no streaking! Plus, it nourishes your lashes with Vitamin B5 and Rice Bran :)

Alright, I saved the best for last!

Sometimes you need not look further than your
refrigerator for the best beauty secrets...

Instead of coconut oil, massage your skin and face with Flax Oil before you hop into bed at night. Omega 3 Oil is amazing, I swear by it religiously. I wake up with youthful skin. that plumps up and glows.

Flax Oil also works at a cellular level to repair damage
and aid in the preservation your body's natural elasticity!

Questions: Do you wear makeup or go all-natural?
Have you tried using natural foods like Avocado, Pumpkin Puree, Oatmeal or Oil to moisturize your skin?

Oh Kelsey, I feel like the worst friend ever. I am such a slacker in term of not commenting on your bloggie :(.
But please know that I love you and think you are amazing and sweet and incredible and awesome all rolled into one!

Sending you lots of xs and os (and chocolate too, because let’s face it: how useful are xs and os?),

Unfortuanatly I stuggled with acne since puberty, so I swear by the magic of makeup! I started using ProActive though, and my skin is nary a pimple! I usually only wear makeup at work now. And other than that, I'm not big on beauty products or routines. I use drugstore shampoo and conditioner and save my money! Ha!

You are adorable! To be honest, I don't wear as much makeup as I used to, but I still don't do all that much other than clean and moisturize my face. I have gotten to the point where I do some loose powder, some blush and mascara (and a little concealer if I have a friend pop up).

Crystal said... [reply]

I love this post so much! And you are so pretty! I have just recently gotten to the point where I am comfortable without wearing much makeup (now that my skin has gotten over the awkward breakout stage). I am definitely going to buy some flax oil now. I heard about it while watching re-runs of Nip/Tuck the other night also, haha. What a great show for self-image.

I love clinique products but am in the process of looking for a new face washing routine because Proactiv is NOT working. It's way too harsh but the commercials are so good that i could not resist!

Anonymous said... [reply]

i used to use really harsh products on my face when i was in high school/college and it made me break out worse. i didn't realize stripping my skin of it's oil was the cause of my pimples! since i stopped eating grains/dairy and using juice organic beauty products, my face is completely cleared. it's amazing, i love my skin now! i wear mascara, tinted chapstick, and a hint of talc free powder to keep shine at bay. <5 min routine!

I do wear makeup, but try not to do too much... My skin likes to BREATHE! :)
I've never used natural foods on my skin, though I've always wanted to try it. I just generally don't spend much time taking care of my skin (i.e. using anything other than a cleanser and lotion) so I rarely think about it. Should though!!
p.s. you're gorgeous!

I swear by the Clinique makeup remover! It's fantastic stuff! I wear makeup daily, but definitely don't cake it on like I used to in, say, highschool or even college. I am not an artist when it comes to the face, so my look is generally pretty natural.

Lori said... [reply]

Love the no-make up pics! And rockin' the towl. hehe. You're awesome.

Good info on the products. I have never tried flax oil but coconut oil i love for my body- face it does make me break out... but super moisturizing!
:)

You are SOOO freaking BEAUTIFUL!!!! I complained to my mom about my skin today and she told me to do a light face mask of yogurt -as it has natural acids that clear up blemishes. I have also tried garlic, which works, but stiiiinks! As for hair, rosemary and white vinegar all the way...and lips, honey and sugar scrub :)

Heather Iacobacci-Miller said... [reply]

Oh I totally wear makeup. I seriously need to find some better products though for cleansing and moisturizing. I have super dry skin.

Nina said... [reply]

I love this cosmetic post! Please make some more! I am a cosmetic addict!

You are exactly that kind of girl who looks best without make up. I usually wear nude make up, sometimes I use light foundation (Clinique superfit make up, it doesn't feel like a mask and it looks very natural), sometimes I use only concealer around eyes. Then I use some powder, nude lipstick, mascara, sometimes brown eyeliner and pink blush or bronzer.

I love using honey on dry lips and olive oil on dry hands and hair ends!

Btw I think you look like a softer version of Angelina Jolie, your bone structure is really perfect, who would use make up with face like that? <3

Nina said... [reply]

Oh and I must try the make up remover by Clinique because I love their products, thanks for the tip! End of the spam!

Kristy Sayer-Jones @ Southern In Law said... [reply]

In the past few months I think i've only worn makeup on 3 or so occasions. Before I used to think that was un-doable and extremely scary - but I now see how silly I was, I'm all for embracing who I really am :)

Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter said... [reply]

Your skin is absolutely beautiful. I never thought about putting flax oil on my face.

I would disagree that your skin is flawless simply because of your skin care routine. My sister and I have the same routine yet her skin is naturally very oily and mine is very dry. She has had problems with breakouts her whole life and I've had probably a total of 10 pimples ever. While the skin care routine definitely has an effect, you can't forget about genetics.

Chelsea said... [reply]

I almost never wear make up! But that's mostly because I don't really know how to apply it properly, haha.

I really want to try using flax oil now!

T. Leah said... [reply]

Kelsey, you have such lovely features!! Even if make-up was good for your skin, you wouldn't need any at all!!

I like to wear mascara only on most days because I am very terrible at applying makeup.

I don't really have much of a skin routine, I was with a bar of soap morning and night, and use a bit of lotion if my skin feels tight after the soap. I'm a hair girl. I use purple shampoos and weightless hair shine stuff.

Anonymous said... [reply]

Yes your skin is beautiful! ;) I don't wear makeup either, because I hate the way it makes my face feel-clogged.

Once, I tried making a face mask-type-thing with greek yogurt, lemon juice, and honey. It felt so good on my skin! My face felt smooth and bright the next day :)

Anonymous said... [reply]

I love that clinique make up remover - my eyes are usually so sensitive, but that stuff never irritates them :)
I've tried so many natural 'facials' - mashed avocado (messyyyyy!), oats mixed with wild honey (the smell makes it so tempting not to nibble at bits that are falling on to your lips!), coconut oil (also great on your hair) and almond oil.

You're so beautiful Kelsey.

now thats impressive. Gorgeous skin! I used bare minerals and that helps a bit but I don't like makeup either. I'll have to try out that homemade mask. FUn!

lequan@luvtoeat said... [reply]

Hey great tips Kelsey! I don't wear make-up except for special occasions. I used to wear make-up more often but ever since having kids, it's only for special occasions cause it's a task just to get the kiddies all dressed and ready to leave the house. Haha. I'll have to try those products you mentioned. Thanks for sharing! You have awesome skiing girl!

Wow, now THAT'S a beauty regime! You look great! I'm blessed with a good complexion, but as I approach the big 3-0 I'm starting to freaaaak out about the new lines, um, WRINKLES, I notice on my face. My bf tells me I can pass for a 25-year old, but seeing the changes is still scary as hell. Moisturizer has become my best friend!

elk said... [reply]

Human Sales Tax??? I've never heard of that!!! It sounds a little...sinister...
I love those photos of you :)
I rotate between shampoos too. It seems to stop hair getting 'stodgy'.
I've tried oatmeal, avocado and honey as an exfoliator before, and it seemed to work. You're left feeling all soft and sweet smelling. I've never thought about using natural oils though. Might give that a go.
I've never worn foundation, but I do use a light powder, concealer under my eyes as required and mascara/ eyeshadow as eyeliner. Though I am finding as I get older I go barefaced more, and that I appreciate my own natural face more than I used to.

wendy @ ABCs and Garden Peas said... [reply]

Pretty photos!!

I've never felt better than after I stopped putting foundation on my face and cut out most of my beauty products. All-natural really is the way to go. My skin was horrible before, and now, no problems! (But I do like a little lip balm and mascara...)

Since my son only eats a little bit of an avocado, sometimes I'll put that on my face. Cucumbers, too!

When I was 12, my friend convinced me that if we put mayonnaise in our hair, it would be so soft. Well it was so soft...and greasy! It was disgusting for weeks.

Kat said... [reply]

I love Origins!! I just started using there stuff and I love the way it makes my skin feel. I have tried homemade stuff and really like oatmeal masks and brown sugar scrubs. I will have to remember that flax oil trick though, that sounds so perfect!!

Anonymous said... [reply]

GORGEOUS darling!!! You are beautiful! No wonder your skin looks so great - you are using such wonderful products! I have never tried anything like that on my face, but I need to. I try not to wear too much makeup, but I kind of have to during the week at work. I only use a mineral powder foundation though that lets my skin breathe. On the weekends though, I rarely ever wear any!!

Anonymous said... [reply]

I love this post!! All of your beauty products have this wonderful fresh aspect to them. I'm the same way with mine. There are just some that are your staples, you know? I just use baby oil to take off my make-up :) You have such a beautiful face, and it's so fresh and that's some thing I've always noted. I agree about letting your skin breathe. I also don't wear foundation. I wear concealer if a pimple rears it's ugly head. I also like to wear blush and mascara :) Those are two things that I wear daily.

XOXO

I try to take very good care of my skin (we use some of the same products). I do wear a bit of mascara and lipstick, but not much more than that. My pores clog up pretty easily so I don't want to cover my skin with junk. You are beautiful, and I loved seeing your daily routine.

Madeline - Greens and Jeans said... [reply]

You are beautiful my friend! I do my best with my skin. I have struggled with acne for eons and I seem to have found a pretty good balance recently. For me the key is exfoliating and moisturizing! I use cocoa butter on everything except my face. I LOVE the way it smells!

Angela (the diet book junkie) said... [reply]

i've learned to wash my hair only every other day (save my expensive hair colour) but it does drive me nuts. i like the feeling of freshly washed hair but sigh...you do what you gotta do :)

i used to be a hard-core makeup-aholic, but the last couple years i've eased up. now i can go to the grocery store and not care! (yay!) i still do my face if i'm seeing friends or having a night on the town. i like to look my best when it counts :)

Pineapple shampoo?! OMG, want!!

I almost NEVER wear makeup, not even mascara or lipstick! Hardly ever. I do like it when I take the time to put it in, but I really can't be bothered, lol.

I wear makeup, but I try to find organic products for my face with ingredients I recognize (especially when it comes to face creams).

Anonymous said... [reply]

I want to try those shampoos! Actually I want to try all those products but I've only ever seen the Avalon Organic ones.

I'm not too bad when it comes to makeup.. I NEVER wear anything like cover-up or foundation. Most days I do wear mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow and blush though.. but I don't think those are too bad. They aren't really on my skin (except for the blush but I buy a natural/organic one) and none of my makeup causes me to breakout so I think I'm doing okay. :)

Anonymous said... [reply]

... I didn't ask, but I am sure glad that other people did!
My skin has been awful for the past few weeks and starting now I am following your amazing example :) I think I actually have flax oil in the fridge too!

Thanks.. and btw, you are so gorgeous and adorable!

You are SOOO cute!

I used to wear make up all the time...until college when one day I just stopped. Cold turkey.

Now I only wear eye liner!

Anonymous said... [reply]

love this post! your skin is amazing! back in college we did this evening length improvised dance peice about skin and all the cool things it does. you are right, it is the biggest organ so it is so important to treat it well!

Krista said... [reply]

Pineapple shampoo & conditioner? Love the sounds of that! I've used the Avalon products before with good results and I'm a HUGE Clinique fan. I've used the dramatically different moisturizer for years. Good tip on using flax oil for your body!

Anonymous said... [reply]

I am so jealous of your shampoos :)

I wear makeup at special occasions only, and when I do it is a bit of powder and some mascara. Thats it. My mom never wore makeup and she never "taught" me how to do it, so I never learned! I still don't know how, but mascara and powder were self explanatory.

You have glowing skin!

I LOVE this post! I'm a product junkie so I love to see what others are using. I try and give myself at least two days of no make up but you're right, once you get used to it, it's hard to quit. The response I get is, "Wow, you look tired today!" and I'm always like, "Um, thanks?!" :)

Anonymous said... [reply]

Oh my gosh, you really do have amazing skin!
I'm feeling pretty guilty right now since I don't exactly remove my make-up at night . . . I don't wear much, but I know I should be cleaning my face more often. I'll have to pick up some of that Clinique stuff . . . and the flax oil sounds like a great idea!

Erica said... [reply]

I need to start using more natural products!! The Pineapple Shampoo and leave-in Conditioner from Circle of Friends sounds fabulous. I will be on the lookout. I have a condition that unfortunately causes my skin to breakout (blah!) so makeup is somewhat of a necessity, but I try to go without when I can ;)

Kris | iheartwellness.com said... [reply]

Ohhh this pineapple shampoo sounds amazing!! Did you get it from planet organic?

I do wear makeup...I wish I didn't need to, but since hitting my mid 20's I have been dealing with breakouts! UGH this should have happened earlier in my years :| I am working through it with my food and hoping more raw will help!

Great flax oil tip! Thanks!

Your skin is gorgeous! I will have to try some of your tips. The omega 3 oil is a great idea! I might have to try that one out.
My hairdresser said it is good to rotate shampoos and conditioners. I noticed you have a few. I should probably do that since I tend to stick with one at a time.

Tina said... [reply]

You're so gorgeous! :)

And I love peppermint shampoos. They wake me up. I don't wear makeup most days, but do like mascara and lipgloss for when I want a little lift to my features without going full out.

Anonymous said... [reply]

Thanks for posting all this. I have SUCH a hard time finding hair and skin products that are organic and dont suck.

I wear makeup to work, but not much, and I almost always take it off as soon as I get home. And on the weekend, unless Im going out, I refuse to put on much more than mascara. Too much work for my time off. :)

Justine said... [reply]

I use old coffee grinds as an exfoliant a couple times a week. I use Avalon's shampoo and their unscented body lotion, but I am looking to go back to Origins as they have never failed me. I have sensitive skin as well. No make up save for mascara and I am happy.

You have so much natural beauty! It's fantastic that you see that too. :)

augustalolita said... [reply]

first off, you are so gorgeous and very lucky to look fab without make up-very jealous hehe :) and i wanted to know if these products are expensive and if i can find them here in the US?? i love the pineapple shampoo and the mint-sounds like it smells wonderful!! and the mascara sounds like a must have!!

Mary @ Bites and Bliss said... [reply]

I only wear makeup if I absolutely have to- otherwise it's au naturale! :P My skin's not absolutely perfect, but I know makeup wont make it any better (except for that stuff with acne meds in it..but it's pretty aweful makeup wise) so I don't bother.

Lola said... [reply]

OMG you are so gorgeouuuus!!!!! I wish I could go without wearing makeup but im full of acne :S
and you are so thin!!!! tips for being tiny as you???

Wow, girl - just loved this post! You´re too adorable and with so little effort... that´s not fair ;) thank you so much for sharing your secrets! I personally love to use ground almonds as a facial and body scrub, mixed with some coconut oil and sea salt. And I also use Korres products - love the company´s homeopathic approach and background and they´re not too pricey, as well and everything is so lovely scented.

Have a beautiful weekend

This is a great post; I love all the tips! I usually wear makeup when I'm going out to do something significant, but if I'm just running to the store or going on a few errands, pshh. Au natural it is. I figure that God made my face look the way He wanted it to, so it's silly to constantly try to change it and make it look how I want it to look. Just my theory. :)

Anonymous said... [reply]

You are far too gorgeous!
I never do much besides washing, but I should probably take a leaf out of your book and take care of myself. I will have to try your flax oil tip, no moisturisers seem to work for me, too full of chemicals!
I only really wear makeup when I'm going out, or when I look really run down. I hate it when you have a break out, on one hand i'd like to cover it up, but in reality I know its only clogging my pores- conundrum!
Just to reiterate, you are as gorgeous on the outside as you are on the inside. I really appreciate your insight.

You look so cute in your mirror. Your skin looks wonderful. I've taken to not wearing make up very much lately because I do breakout a lot more. My skin is still very breakout prone, but not nearly as bad as it used to be. :)
