Eating Raw Oatmeal

I used to think it was bad to eat raw oats

But it occurred to me that I used to sneak spoonfuls of raw oatmeal from the
Quaker canister when I was younger because I loved the taste and chewiness

For Breakfast I sliced 2 Bananas in a bowl

And poured Silk Unsweetened Soy Milk over top

It's good to know that you don't have to cook oats to safely enjoy them :)

Question: Who else loves eating raw oats?

I enjoy them so much more puffed up! Dont raw oats have phytic acid which inhibits the absorption of some nutrients? I thought you at least needed to soak them.. Hmm... Need to read.

I love raw oats -- and I eat them like cereal too! I don't eat yogurt anymore, but when I did, raw oats was a nice mix-in as well.

Have a nice weekend Kelsey!

I like raw oats too, but not quite as much as I like them cooked!

I love raw oats! Sometimes I like them better than cooked--it just depends on my mood! :)

mmm like muesli! I read that raw oats are actually better for you than cooked.

You know, I can't say I've ever even thought to eat raw oats! Obviously I just haven't been thinking hard enough. That bowl looks GOOD.

I love muesli, which is basically raw oats. I love the big banana slices and chocolate chips. With tons of protein from that soy milk, you have yourself a power breakfast!

There will always be a place for uncooked oats in my life. I used to like eating them dry, sprinkled with sugar, as a child (I still do sometimes...shhh...) They have such a nice taste! I never realised that people didn't eat them raw until I came across "are raw oats ok to eat?" on blogs.

And raw jumbo oats...oh so chewy...

I always snuck raw oatmeal too when I was a kid :) Now for the weirdo confessions: I also occasionally sucked on small amounts of uncooked rice (Pica? who knows) as a small child. I was a vegetarian then too and maybe I was craving something that I got from it, maybe I was just a weirdo, who knows.

But I like oats in all of their forms now!

I do! At first I thought it was weird but then I realized that I use to always eat cookie dough that had raw oats in it.. and hey, I'm still alive! Now I want oatmeal cookies.. chocolate chip oatmeal cookies to be exact.

You have a bowl of comfort food! I like to eat raw oats, especially old fashion one (how odd :-p). Also I couldn't eat too much because it is so dry. But I find a great way : just toast them in the oven for 10 min, then I can eat them directly from the box, no milk needed, no cooking needed! haha ;-)

ME ME ME! Actually I love them any which way...but with bananas and chocolate? Uh - YES PLEASE :)

I like raw oats, but usually mixed into something like yogurt or pumpkin puree so that they soften up a little. I actually might like them even better than cooked oats. Lately, though, I've been soaking my oats in water and lemon juice before eating them anyway. This helps get rid of the phytic acid so we can better absorb the nutrients...its kind of annoying though. I need to think to do it in advance because I don't like having to wait for anything!
I'm with you on the chewiness though. I love chewy textures too :)

Sara said... [reply]

I like blending raw oats into a smoothie - it makes it super thick and slightly chewy/doughy :)

I love raw oats in soy yogurt.
With lots of fruits (dried!)

I don't think I would have EVER thought to eat my oats raw. I mean, I will eat them sprinkled on top of things like casseroles or bread, but just raw with milk and fruit? Nope, I never would think to do that! I'm actually eating oats as I write this, but I love them cooked, hot, and creamy :) As it gets warmer, however, I may have to try this!

Muesli is just the best :)

LOVE that breakfast!! Specially the dark chocolate chips:)

Raw oats are so GOOD and TOTALLY underrated!! BUT for me oatmeal still wins! :P

I think the fine ones are better for eating raw than the big ones, although it's not unusual to have those as well (for some people, that is). I often see them in mĆ¼sli mixes at the supermarket.
