Blogging Helps Mental Health

I've been blogging for almost 5 years now. I never got into it for money
or fame, and never expected a single comment. I did it for a hobby which
turned into a passion. As the years went on I found less and less people
following but it never stopped me from doing what I love. Because simply, it
made me feel better and has connected me to others who share the same passion.

You may remember my post here talking about my personal struggles with
mental health. Well I can tell you a few things blogging has done to help.
First it made me appreciate life and others who share this big wide world.

It connected me to crafting and learning new ways of being creative....

I can make things and inspire others to make things too.

It allowed me to post about my love of muffins
and find amazing recipes you share on muffins too!

It made me learn that being a homebody can be a good thing, and
sitting in front of my computer can be productive, not just a waste of time.

I could share in my passion for sweet potatoes and learn to
spice things up with cheese, making for more enjoyable mealtimes.

And its a better cure than wine (hard to believe)
It helps me to unwind, destress, and rejuvinate.

Question: How has blogging made
an impact on your own mental health?

You couldn't be more right... I've always struggled with depression and years ago I started a Livejournal where I let it all out. I started blogging again when I moved away from home to keep my family updated with what was going on, but now I've had the pleasure of finding so many blogs that inspire me, make me laugh, make me think. Blogging is still therapeutic (even if I share my most private thoughts for a handwritten journal), though, and I it's nice to connect with others with similar interests who I would have never come in contact with if it weren't for blogging.

Blogging, just like baking muffins, is therapeutic!
Have a marvelous weekend, Kelsey!

I 100% believe that blogging is great for mental health! I started my blog when my husband joined the Navy and we were going to be separated for the FIRST TIME EVER for 9 weeks. It was the only thing that kept me from getting depressed, or down, or bored. And I know it'll be a life saver for his first deployment when he's gone for 9 MONTHS, not just weeks. It's a journal, a mind dump, an inspiration, a networking tool.. it's pretty much a healthy and creative hobby! I <3 blogging! hehehe... - www.domesticgeekgirl.com

Hi Kelsey,
I'm so glad you visited my blog and thanks for your kind comments. I'm from Vancouver Island as well - North Saanich. At the moment, I'm living in Ontario for work reasons but my home is in the Deep Cove area and I miss it deeply - especially during this freezing weather!
Love your blog and your writing style. It's real and relatable and I'll be back often to visit. Nice to know I'll have a blogging neighbour when I finally get myself back home!
Enjoy your weekend :)

I love this post!

I started my very first blog when I was a student in Paris - back then it helped me stay in touch with everyone at home. Eventually I realized that it was a great way of documenting my life. After law school, I moved on and created my next blog. At that point I was living in the Kootenays and frankly didn't have any friends in my community. That blog allowed me to have conversations with like minded people and share the beauty of my corner of the world. Now I write at Toronto Girl West - the blog has changed over time but I generally use it to document all that is good and happy in my world.

There have been times when I have taken breaks from blogging but I have missed it intensely and always come back.

I'm finding out how therapeutic it has been when I think before my intentions were not that to begin with. God has something else mapped out for me and I'm finding more and more support in a place I never thought I would!

You have an awesome blog up and such a beautiful spirit! I cannot wait to see more recipes and have something to smile about! Thank you Kelsey!
