one hundred

I guess i'm supposed to celebrate
when I reach 100 posts

So happy one hundred posts!
...and many many more to come
whether you like it or not!

Celebrated with my freshly baked Lemon Poppy Seed Muffins.
Gonna have to pat myself on the back for making these yummy!

Then I went about making my usual spinach and egg wrap in a tortilla...

And it exploded in the George Foreman!
What the... haha

We're pretty fortunate to have a lot of local food markets and grocery stores on the Island. The Root Cellar is fairly new and people here are addicted.

Farm Fresh. Dirt Cheap.

They have rediculously frugal prices... a lot of things from lettuce, to grapes and even boxes of cherries can be as low 99 cents! The way it ought to be!

So strange seeing Jackfruit...
smelt a bit like pineapple but more potent

Left with a bunch of veggies and fruits.. celery, kale, apples,
squash, cherries, snap beans and some avocados

Question: How's the Local Food scene in your area?
Do you pay more or less than imported produce?

WOW the local produce there looks amazing and great prices! I dont know if there are any around here like that, being that I just moved here, but I know when I go to the grocery store, I pay alot for my organic fruits and veggies!

Happy 100 posts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! U should celebrate, and what a way to with that muffin!!!

Your best advice said... [reply]

I have never been to a farmers market like that...around here they are small

Congrats on 100 posts, girlie! Love that you celebrated with a muffin, which is your special thing :)

The local food scene here is pretty lacking. We have some farmer's markets, but they're nothing special, and super expensive! I've always wanted to live in a place where I could find those kind of goodies... maybe one day :)

Holy crap...that market is incredible! We live in a small town outside of a major city, so we really don't have any good local markets. Happy 100th post! Here's to many more and loving it!

If fruit was always priced so well I think it would help with the health of a lot of people. Congrats on hittin 100 I can't wait to read more!

HAPPY 100TH POST! That rocks!

I love farmers markets, and will totally pay more for local produce!

Happy 100th! Can't wait to read the next 100. ;)

We have one family-owned farm that sells produce pretty reasonably (AND fried piez...), but for the most part, our farmer's markets are lacking or quite far away in our sprawled out city. :(

Congrats on 100 posts!!

The locally grown stuff is more expensive... unless, of course, it's from my own garden! ;)

Congratulations on your 100th post. I'm continually impressed by how well your blog is doing, and how many followers you have! You have so much support.

Our local food scene is fairly decent. There are a number of farmers' markets in the area, but since we live far from them, it's a pain sometimes to drive. The prices are definitely more reasonable when buying directly from farmers. (But now we have a garden, so we've been eating lots of stuff straight from home.) :)

Happy 100th-post-a-versary!!!
And what better way to celebrate it than with a super-moist lemon poppyseed muffin made with extra-love, right? :-) Ha!

I love you so much Kelsonator. :-)

Local produce is pretty awesome in the Loo. We're all a bunch of farmers here, anyway. Love it! Local kale and cabbage, here I come!!

:-) xoxo Aletheia

Yay on 100 posts!! Most definitely look forward to 100 more. We have 2 Farmers' Markets - one organic, one not. The organic one is all local as well and tends to be cheaper.

Anonymous said... [reply]

Yay congrats on 100 posts!

I'm so jealous of your farmer's market! Our Farmer's market here can be quite pricey :(

Anonymous said... [reply]

Congrats on 100 posts! Hooray!

And holy cow that's cheap produce! I really need to start shopping around a little more... I'm just such a sucker for convenience. :S

Happy 100 posts Kelsey! I feel like I've read and loved every single one of them.

We have farmer's markets around here but honestly, they aren't very affordable most of the time. I saw peaches last weekend for $3.99 a pound! Ridiculous. I had to go to Trader Joe's instead. :(

Kittie said... [reply]

Oh my goodness! That market looks incredible! I have to drive about 45 minutes to get to one and the prices....eh, not so great.

The local food in DC is pretty great because there are a ton of farmer's markets everywhere. There is one near my house on Tuesdays and one right outside my office on Thursdays, and then I get a fresh box of produce every Thursday from my farm share, so there's lots of fresh fruits and veggies everywhere!

Those produce pictures made my heart sing many praises! :)

Fresh fruit around here is ridiculously expensive... especially if it's organic! I try to hit up the farmer's markets like crazy though - I'll pay the price!!!

Happy 100th post! That reminds me of kindergarten when you had the 100th day of school celebration. I think I brought in 100 buttons. :)

I am Green with envy!
I am in South Florida and there is not a very strong local scene at all unfortunatelty.

I am officially researching vacationing up there. Your blog has me so inspired. This sealed the deal.

congratulations on your 100th sweetie!!!

all of the fresh produce looks great - yumm! in berlin where I live we´re pretty lucky, b/c many different ethnicies live here, so we have lots of markets and small corner stores where the fresh stuff is super reasonable and tasty!

have a lovely day

Happy 100th post! You know I'll definitely be sticking around for your next 100! :D

That market looks amazing. We have a good, but small, market in the summers here in my hometown. But in my university town there's an amazing year-round market with produce, cheeses, meats, you name it! I love that place!!

Anonymous said... [reply]

congrats on the 100! wow you're old ;)

The local produce in Colorado is quite pitiful right now, but I'm hoping for an improvement down in Texas. Congratulations on your 100th post and what a way to celebrate (fresh produce and muffins can't be beat!)

Anonymous said... [reply]

Happy 100th post Kelsey! I would totally celebrate with one of those muffins, or two, or three ;-).

You're so lucky to have such a great farmer's market, and with such great prices. The ones we have are pretty small and PRICEY. I'm impressed that you even have jackfruit, wow! Lucky ducky!

Hello lover...and by that I'm referring to that muffin o' deliciousness.

As for local, I have a CSA that gets me fresh organic produce every other week and parents who let me pretend their garden is my own personal super market. Oh and I do frequent the local farmer's market, which is AMAZING. But we don't have clever sayings like "farm fresh dirt cheap."

And happy 100th post!!!

I love the way you write because it shows us what a wonderful person you are.

Happy 100!! I'm almost there myself - we should have a party haha :)

And the local produce scene around me is not very great, it makes me so jealous to see shots like yours!

Laury@TheFitnessDish said... [reply]

Happy 100th post!!!!!!! Loving those muffins, as I said before ;-)

My local scene is OK...the farm down the roads prices aren't dirt cheap (I SO wish I had what you have!)..but they are not outrageous. The thing that bothers me is, my farm sells stuff from Mexico and other countries...it kinda makes me sad, they are supposed to be local, and I o there to support them, not buy conventional produce from another country! I have whole foods down the road as well, the farm and whole foods are literally 2 minutes from my house...WF, of course, is ridic..but they get a lot of local stuff I buy, but all the local stuff is prices WELL above the imported stuff...but I support my local peeps, that's why I am always BROKE!! Haha

xoxo

That muffin looks like quite the way to celebrate! I can't wait to read all your lovely posts to come! I am loving all that produce.. we have a ton of great farmer's markets around here so I'm very lucky!

Unknown said... [reply]

Happy 100th post! I'm looking forward to more :)

Your local food scene looks awesome! I wish ours were that big (and cheap). I remember trying jackfruit and it was mehhhhh...but maybe that's because mine was canned & soaking in brine (prob)!

Justine said... [reply]

Happy 100th! I just had mine last week. :)
I live in the middle of America. ALL produce us ridiculously expensive. I hate it but what can you do?

Anonymous said... [reply]

Congrats! Wahoo!!! 100!

You know what, I really don't know what our local produce prices are like. I've been dying to go to a farmer's market, but I'm so busy playing in tennis tournaments every weekend!!! Ugh! Can you just send me some?? :)

Mandiee said... [reply]

Happy 100 posts, dearie! I definitely look forward to more :D. I am alllll about the local produce! I make it a point to go to the huge (and I'm talking HUGE) farmer's market every Saturday morning. I love that I can actually meet my farmer, support the local economy, and even save on the fuel that would be used for imported goods. Usually it is extremely cheap, but certain things, like berries can be pretty expensive. I pick and choose, but I always try to buy local (and organic!) when it is possible and reasonable.

Have a lovely day!

Woohoo on your 100th post! Dang cherries for 99 cents? That is freaking awesome. I need to find other farmer's markets around here. We went to one that sucked.

Anonymous said... [reply]

happy 100 post day to you! your muffins are positively gorgeous! i am envious of the puffy top :)

that store looks super cool. we have farmers markets in the area but they can be a bit pricey. there are a few really really good co-ops too. so i think we have a fairly good deal in MN.

happy one-hundredth post!! and a lovely one...do you mind if i come live with you? i promise i'll only take a couple of those delicious muffins, and try to leave some produce left in the frugal foodie's dreamland :P produce is SO expensive around here, that as much as I want to be able to buy from the co-op, i have to buy from the grocery store :( i do try to get basic stuff like greens & local fruits and veggies at the farmer's market or stands, though

Anonymous said... [reply]

Congrats on your hundredth post! Yay. I remember when I was there just a few short months ago, hehe. :)

I love fresh produce! One of the best things about summer. NYC is awesome and has year round farmer's markets, all local and fresh and tasty. So delicious. I am loving peaches right now! Yum.

Anonymous said... [reply]

Congrats on the 100th post! That's awesome and I can't wait until I reach it. Maybe if I posted more consistently..

I'm mega jealous of all the beautiful and fresh fruits and veggies you have access to! The food scene in my town is not very great and it makes me extremely sad. Seriously, it actually upsets me.. haha.

Hey lovely- thank you so much for your sweet comment today. It brightened my day a little! I'm glad you didn't think I was crazy with the whole coloured food scenario. Honestly, I think it was an early form of OCD, but I do try to make light of it now.
Happy 100th post! It's really funny, because I think you started your blog a bit after mine, but I'm only at 60 something posts. Inconsistent blogger award goes to ME. Anyway, I'm so happy you stuck with blogging. Keep it going!
Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to go to the market ONCE this summer...I've been doing random grocery shops IF i notice that the fridge is empty..my life is too hectic for a leisurely stroll through a farmer's market. I'm making it my goal to go before the end of the summer. I know we have some really good markets in Toronto and I want to take advantage of them. Love ya hun! So happy that we have connected through blogging. xooxx

Woo, hooray for 100 posts!! Your muffin looks incredible, oh my word. I have had muffins on the brain for DAYS now; I seriously just need to make some. I'm either gonna do that tonight or tomorrow. :)

The Root Cellar sounds incredible. How lucky are you to have a local, cheap produce place! As for me, I can usually find pretty good deals at my local Sun Harvest. Occasionally I'll get a good price at the big grocery store, but we usually stick to Sun Harvest or the Farmer's Market. Of course, the Farmer's Market produce is my favorite. :) <3

HOLY COW. That muffin looks amazing!

Krista said... [reply]

We've got some pretty decent markets here, but I would say they border on expensive. Imported stuff is def cheaper, but I go for the local stuff, not what I can get in a grocery store...
